POSITION SUMMARY: Under general direction of the Recreation Manager, the Recreation Specialist position is responsible for coordinating, promoting, and facilitating elements of City-sponsored programs, events/festivals, and internal operations, etc. The Recreation Specialist also assists in the creation and execution of programs and special events through preparing and organizing resources. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Assists in ensuring the delivery of high quality recreation programs and services to the community. o Facilitates programs, events, and leagues. o Coordinates with parks staff, vendors and participants to ensure proper information is communicated o Monitors timelines to ensure deadlines are met • Recommends additional programming and events to ensure program growth based on customer preference. • Works with key staff to create, design and edit promotional materials, forms, flyers, etc. to ensure a consistent city brand. o Collaborates with the Public Affairs Communication team to create marketing strategies, develop Schertz Magazine content, and the Schertz Parks & Recreation FUN Guide. • Assists in volunteer management and recruitment. • Maintains a current database of vendors, contractors, and other contacts/resources. • Responds to and resolves difficult and sensitive inquiries and complaints. • Responds to telephone inquiries, email inquiries, records messages, transfers calls, keeps calendars and schedules appointments as needed. • Assists with processing all invoices and payments for various events. • Manages special projects as requested. • Perform other job-related duties as required or directed. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS • High School diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree preferred. • Two years related experience required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
