As our Purchasing Coordinator, you’ll be the go-to expert who streamlines processes, strengthens compliance, and helps departments get what they need to serve our community effectively. You’ll lead key programs—from bid management and citywide contracts to fixed assets, surplus property, P-cards, and travel—while championing clarity, consistency, and innovation in every step of the procurement process. If you’re a strong communicator, an organized problem solver, and someone who enjoys making complex processes simple, this role offers a meaningful opportunity to create impact citywide. 1. Responsible for policy and process development, training, assistance, and coordination with city departments to ensure a smooth and seamless procurement process that follows all applicable Federal, State, and local City laws and policies for purchases in informal and formal bid ranges. 2. Monitors requisition workflows, issues purchase orders and reconcile outstanding purchase orders. 3. Assists city departments with development of requests for informal bids or proposals. 4. Manages and facilitates all aspects of formal bid processes, from development of bid packages through contract award and execution. 5. Identifies and executes opportunities for the city to leverage economies of scale and increase purchase efficiency through city-wide bulk purchases and service contracts; oversees renewal and rebid procedures for city-wide contracts. 6. Administers the city’s P-card program, including policy development, staff training, and monthly card statement review. 7. Manages the city’s fixed asset program and reconciles capital assets to the general ledger. 8. Manages the city’s surplus property program. 9. Administers the city’s travel policy. 10. Other duties as assigned. Required: - Graduation from a four-year college or business school, with a major in business administration, accounting, risk management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. - Certified Local Government Purchasing Officer (CLGPO), or willingness to attend training and the UNC School of Government and obtain certification. - Possession of a value North Carolina driver’s license. - Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, lifting, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. - Must be able to perform light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. - Must possess the visual acuity to work with data and figures, handle accounting processes, operate a computer, and do extensive reading.
