The primary objective of this position is to maintain, diagnose and make repairs on a wide variety of equipment and vehicles. This includes but is not limited to: trimmers, chainsaws, pumps, generators, mowers, trailers, cars, pickups, dump trucks, fire trucks and light and heavy construction equipment. 1. Performs scheduled maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment. 2. Performs detailed diagnostic and/or repair/service work on fuel, hydraulic, electrical, exhaust, suspension, steering, braking (air, hydraulic/ABS), drive train, air conditioning, heating and drive line systems. 3. Performs commercial motor vehicle inspections on City-owned trailers and trucks. 4. Orders and tracks parts and supplies to make the necessary diagnosed repairs. 5. Records parts and labor hours for creation of electronic work orders and invoicing. 6. Maintains work area and tools for a clean and safe work environment. 7. Operate a variety of vehicles and equipment when assigned. 8. Receives and unloads materials and supplies that are delivered. 9. Operates a snowplow truck when assigned. **Minimum Qualifications:** - A commitment to and belief in the organization's shared values. - High school diploma or equivalent. - One-year experience of fleet maintenance and repair on light and/or heavy duty equipment. - Possess a Class A Commercial Motor Vehicle driver's license within 12 months of hire date. - Enrolled in FMCSA CDL Clearinghouse at the time of interview. - Experience using a PC, email, MS Word. - Available to be on call for weekend and holiday work. - Must be able to respond to the public works facility within 45 minutes. **Preferred Qualifications:** - Two years of fleet maintenance and repair experience on light and heavy-duty equipment. - One-year of governmental fleet repair and maintenance experience. - Master technician in automotive and/or heavy truck repair (ASE certified). - One year of repair and maintenance experience working on construction equipment. - Ability to perform welding, brazing and metal fabrication. - DOT Certified for annual commercial motor vehicle Inspections. **Knowledge, Skills and Abilities** *Knowledge of:* - Mechanical, electrical and hydraulic operating systems in light and heavy equipment. - Fleet repair and maintenance principles and practices. - Gasoline and diesel engine operation. - Basic safety regulations and requirements. - Motor vehicle operating rules, regulations and licensure. - Welding and metal fabrication. - Cost and accounting principles. *Skilled in* - Problem solving and analytical reasoning. - The use of hand tools and diagnostic equipment. - The use of radios, telephones, computers and office machines. - The use of repair, parts and maintenance manuals (paper and electronic). - Reading and interpretation of diagrams and prints. *Ability to:* - Work independently, productively and safely. - Use sound judgment. - Follow written and verbal directions. - Use computers and associated fleet programs. - Keep detailed and accurate records. - Provide excellent customer service. **RELATIONSHIPS** **This Position Reports to: Lead Mechanic** **PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS** Perform all physical duties normally expected of a PSWIV.
