**Police Sergeant (Internal & External Recruitment)** **Police Sergeant Salary:$134,472 -$162,608/year\****\*Minimum and Maximum includes 7% holiday pay , 10% Ed incentive, bilingual pay and a $1,200 uniform allowance.* **Effective July** **1, 2027** **4% salary increase on base rate of pay** **Additional Compensation and Other Benefits if qualified:** - Holiday Pay - 7% - Educational Incentive - 5% for AA/AS degree or intermediate post /10% for BA/BS degree or advance post - Bilingual Premium - $225/month - Uniform - $1,200/year - Tuition Reimbursement - $1,000/ per semester - Shift Differential - $1.25/hour - Longevity (1/2 of monthly base wage after 5 years of service) - Generous contributions to medical, dental and vision plans - Participation in the CalPERS Retirement System - City of Winters participates into Social Security **About the City of Winters** The City of Winters is located in the southwestern corner of Yolo County, just east of Lake Berryessa and the Blue Ridge Coastal Range. Just thirty miles from Sacramento and an hour to the San Francisco Bay, Winters is perfectly situated in the countryside with convenient access to suburban and metropolitan areas. Winters has a current population of approximately 8,500 residents. It is known for its friendly, small-town atmosphere, community events and easy access to outdoor activities. It’s charming, historic downtown boasts one of the more vibrant downtowns in Northern California, including farm to table restaurants, wineries, breweries, coffee houses, and boutiques. Winters is a highly desirable location to live and raise families and the city is expecting a 30%+ population growth within the next few years. The Winters Police Department enjoys widespread support from the community and elected officials. The Police Department presently staffs 11 full-time sworn positions. The Police Department operates from a modern public safety facility and focuses on providing staff with the highest quality equipment as well as ample training opportunities. The Police Department also has a take home vehicle program for officers that live within 60 miles of the city. Police Sergeants are a key element of the Winters Police Department team. Police Sergeants not only supervise and participate in patrol functions, they also have the opportunity to develop themselves by engaging in mid-management functions such as managing training, fleet maintenance, volunteer services and force options training; supervising and directly participating in investigations; writing and administrating grants; and managing complex projects. The city offers additional incentives and benefits including holiday pay, education pay, bilingual pay, shift differential, continuing education incentive, annual longevity bonus after five years of employment, and cafeteria plan for health care (or cash medical in-lieu if covered elsewhere). The City of Winters participates in the CalPERS retirement system. **EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT/ESSENTIAL DUTIES** - Plans, prioritizes, assigns, supervises, and reviews the work of staff assigned to services and operations division; recommends and assists in the implementation of goals and objectives. - Answers questions and provides information to the public; investigates complaints and recommends corrective actions. - Evaluates operations and activities of assigned responsibilities; recommends improvements and prepares various reports. - Investigates crimes (burglaries, homicides, assaults, etc.) to find and implicate perpetrators; collects evidence, interviews witnesses, prepares cases, and testifies in court. - Acts as a back-up patrol officer and assures proper flow of cases to authorities and appropriate agencies. - Acts as supervisor at critical incidents and as an Operations Section Commander under the Incident Command System (ICS). - Coordinates with the Records Manager in the development and maintenance of the Records Management System. - Participates in budget preparation and…
