### Description *Position at MTA Headquarters* **INTERNAL JOB POSTING - ONLY OPEN TO CURRENT MEMBERS OF THE MTA POLICE DEPARTMENT** **** **Job Title:** **Request for Consideration – Police Officer, Emergency Service** **Unit** **Dept/Div:** **Emergency Service Unit/Special Operations Division** **Supervisor:** **Commanding Officer, Emergency Services Unit, through the Special Operations Division Chain of Command** **Location:** **Various assigned locations throughout the MTA Police Department service area** **Hours:** **Assigned to the ESU patrol schedule; subject to recall and emergency mobilization** **Summary:** **The Department is seeking qualified members from the rank of Police Officer who are interested in assignment to the Emergency Service Unit (ESU), Special Operations Division.** **Responsibilities:** The mission of the Emergency Service Unit is to apply specialized training, equipment, and expertise in support of the MTA Police Department patrol function by resolving major incidents beyond the scope of the uniformed patrol officer. ESU capabilities include technical and transit-environment rescue, explosive detection and screening support, hazardous materials and CBRNE response, counterterrorism and anti-terrorism support, and rapid mobilization during critical incidents affecting the transit system. ESU officers receive training specific to the public transportation environment, positioning the Unit to protect life, safeguard critical infrastructure, and facilitate the timely restoration of Metropolitan Transportation Authority operations. **Qualifications:** ***Interested members must possess the following qualifications/requirements to be considered for the ESU Physical Agility Examination: date, time, and location TBD*** Successfully complete their probationary period and have at least three (3) years of police service with the MTA Police Department by the time of appointment. - Possess a sincere interest in the work of the Emergency Service Unit. - Complete an Emergency Service Unit Exam Questionnaire. - Pass an Emergency Service Physical Agility Exam administered by the Department. (Standards available from the Special Operations Division). - Complete a Candidate Application AFTER SUCCESSFULLY passing the Physical Agility Examination. - Commit to serve in this assignment for a minimum of four (4) years from the date of appointment to the Unit. - Willingness to operate all Department-owned equipment related to the Emergency Service Unit operations and to maintain all associated qualifications. - Willingness to respond to recall and emergency mobilization as directed. ***Qualified candidates who have successfully passed the ESU Physical Agility Examination must complete the following:*** - Successfully complete a panel interview. - Candidates with proven self-initiated police activity and a good disciplinary record are highly preferred. ***Candidates who have been selected for an appointment to the Emergency Service Unit must complete the following to remain in the Unit:*** - Successful completion of the Emergency Services Unit Basic Training Course. - Active participation in all Unit training, exercises, and interagency drills as scheduled. - Successful completion of the New York State Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course and maintenance of NYS EMT certification while assigned to the Unit. - Ongoing maintenance of all required equipment, firearms, and specialty qualifications. **Other Information** Interested employees who meet the eligibility requirements will receive a notification from the Special Operations Division confirming their eligibility and advising of the time and reporting location for the Physical Agility Examination. Candidates that successfully complete the Physical Agility Examination will be invited to participate in a panel interview.
