About the Hvac Specialist role

Hvac Specialist positions focus on delivering results in their domain. This page aggregates open Hvac Specialist roles and what employers typically expect.

This position is accountable for repairing and maintaining all HVAC equipment throughout the Aiken County buildings. 1. Preventative Maintenance – This position follows a prescribed maintenance schedule for all equipment in all County buildings, and travels to complete inspections as required. When there are conflicting priorities, decisions are made based upon urgency and timeliness. 2. Equipment Repair – When issues arise, the incumbent will receive a work order and is responsible for following up immediately to assess the problem and determine the best solution. When repairs can be made for less than $1500, the incumbent may exercise independent judgment in completing those repairs at that time. Repairs costing more than $1500 require supervisory approval. 3. Equipment Replacement – Upon receiving a work order, the incumbent will travel to the building to assess the malfunctioning equipment. If best judgment determines that the equipment needs to be replaced rather than repaired and the costs are below $1500, the incumbent is authorized to proceed with the replacement. If great than $1500, or if there are extenuating circumstances, the incumbent will seek supervisory approval. 4. Back Up Support – This position may be assigned to assist others with plumbing, electrical work, grounds work or carpentry as needed. **Note:** This list is not comprehensive; this job is also responsible for other duties as assigned. One of the major challenges of this position is the size of the County, the number of locations, and the age of some of the equipment. When parts are no longer available, the incumbent will from time to time create a part that can be used to fix the problem rather than replacing equipment. Knowing how to repair and replace all of the different makes and model of equipment can also be a challenge. When there are conflicting priorities, the incumbent will make decisions based upon the severity of the problems at hand, the number of people adversely affected, and how it will impact the citizens of the County. | **PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB:** This job has specific physical requirements such as lifting, driving, ability to travel, etc. Daily lifting/carrying up to 75 lbs, traveling daily in the elements; working in the heat/cold; exposure to heights, electricity, and freon. | | --- | **REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND JOB-RELATED EXPERIENCE:** Minimum Level of Job-Related Education: 2 year certificate program from a technical college. Minimum Amount of Job-Related Experience: 3 years of experience.
