POSITION TITLE: 185 - Phlebotomist Non-Certified LOCATION: Hospital Setting and/or Clinical REPORTS TO: Director of Ancillary Services REVISION DATE: 5/1/2026 QUALIFICATIONS: - EDUCATION: Minimum high school diploma or equivalent required for all positions (may be allowed to sign a GED agreement to obtain within 6 months). - REQUIRED: see above - PREFERRED: - EXPERIENCE: N/A - REQUIRED: - PREFERRED: - Preferred phlebotomy experience 1-2 years in all areas (geriatric, pediatric, neonate, routine heel sticks, finger sticks). - Preferred collection of urine/blood drug screens – chain of custody. - Prefer certification in DOT collections. - OTHER REQUIREMENTS OR LICENSURE: - BLS certification or obtains within six months of hire strongly recommended - Willing to obtain Certification in phlebotomy. PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Usual working space is a well-ventilated area. Requires standing, walking, turning, bending, stooping, and lifting. Clear speech to communicate effectively with customers (e.g. patients, families, and other team members). Fine and gross motor skills. Environment may be stressful at times, therefore ability to work under stressful conditions is necessary. Lifting up to 50 lbs may be required, anything over 50 lbs should be a team lift or with the use of a lifting aid. Also subject to bloodborne pathogens at all times in patient care. May have occasional exposure to radiation during radiology procedures and to dangerous chemicals (cleaning and disinfecting agents). Computer skills are required. • Responsible for daily routine duties in lab as outlined below. • Must be flexible for scheduling purposes. • Responsible for assuring that services are provided in a manner that is consistent with Ohio County Hospital policies and procedures and purpose, vision, and values. • Must be neat, clean, and professional in appearance. • Exhibit positive human relations. • Must follow the laboratory’s procedures for specimen collection, handling, processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results. • Will perform only those waived tests that are approved by Lab Director and commensurate with the person’s education, training or experience and technical abilities. • Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies and document all quality control activities performed. • Must be capable of identifying problems with specimen collection that may adversely affect test results, and either must correct the problem immediately or notify supervisor of problem before proceeding with specimen processing. • Must maintain a safe work environment. • Maintain specimen collection area and equipment and collection trays in a clean orderly manner. • Contributes to the efficient operations of the laboratory. • Required to travel off…
