Verifies patient by matching two unique identifiers with patient armband or verbal information from potential donor. Obtains blood specimens by performing appropriate venipuncture method. Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures and good technique policies. Collects timed specimens according to the printed label time with a 10 minute leeway. Tracks collected specimens by initialing, dating and noting times of collection on the specimens. Maintains quality results by following department procedures and testing schedule. Maintains safe, secure and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations. Resolves unusual test orders by contacting the clinician, nursing station or ordering clinic. Refers unresolved orders back to the originator for further clarification and notifies technical staff or supervisor of unresolved orders. **PHYSICAL DEMANDS** Prolonged periods of standing and walking Must be able to lift, push and pull up to 40 pounds during a scheduled work shift. Must be able to see with corrective eye wear if needed Must be able to hear clearly with assistance if needed May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases Able to handle emergency and/or crisis situations May be required to wear protective equipment as necessary Transferring, repositioning patients.
