The primary site of inpatient care services is at the University of Toledo Medical Center, but many of our physicians’ practice at hospitals and medical offices throughout the region.** **University of Toledo Physicians offers competitive pay and benefits including: 403B, Pension, health and tuition waiver at UT.** # # Position Summary The Hospital Medicine Division is extremely active in all aspects of inpatient care within the University of Toledo Medical Center. The successful applicant will provide inpatient hospitalist coverage on a per diem basis. - Work with the Hospital Medicine healthcare team to provide patients with medical care services within the standard of care for Hospital Medicine patients. - Primarily will admit patients, but at times may be required to round with the Hospital Medicine team, including APPs, and other multidisciplinary staff. Also, the successful candidate may have independent rounding responsibilities. - Order laboratory and radiology tests and refer patients to specialists when appropriate. - Analyze reports, test results, medical records and examinations to diagnose condition of patients and propose treatment options. - Prescribe pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens to treat identified and documented medical conditions. - Discuss potential side effects of medication/treatment with patients and ensure that all allergy information is up to date before prescribing medication/treatment. - Provide advice to patients for lifestyle and diet changes that may improve their health or help to treat the health issue they are experiencing. - Adhere to departmental policies, procedures and objectives, ongoing quality improvement objectives and safety, environmental, and infection control standards. - Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all federal and state health information privacy laws. - Record complete, timely and legible medical records. # # Qualifications/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: - MD or equivalent required - Board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Internal Medicine - Current licensure in the State of Ohio required, prior to beginning the position **Communication and other skills**: - Ability to successfully teach and mentor medical students, residents and fellows. - Experience in collaborating with specialists to explore patient health conditions and diagnose health issues. - Experience in working as a team of healthcare professionals and collaborating with them to ensure positive, effective patient experiences with our organization. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. **** **Reporting Relationships:** - This position reports to the Chief of the Division and the Chairman of Medicine **Working Conditions:** - This position works in a professional clinical and academic office setting. - The University of Toledo is an Equal Access, Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action Employer and Educator The above list of duties is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by people assigned to this classification.
