Our relatives come first and deserve the best. **Position Summary:** The Peer Advocate is a part of the Elders Program Team, who is responsible for serving our Elder Relatives at the Seattle Indian Health Board. The Elder Program serves our American Indian/Alaska Native and First Nations Elders, aged 55 and older. The program provides a place for our Elders to meet, have 2 meals a day, socialize, and stay connected to their community. Responsibilities include supporting the day-to-day operations of the Elders Program, assisting with insurance enrollment and application, and connecting Elder Relatives to King County Social Services while providing exceptional customer service. **Organizational Responsibilities** - Hold Indigenous values and practices with respect and integrity. - Hold yourself accountable to the highest standard by being resourceful, innovative, creative, and solutions-oriented. - Actively participate in organizational activities with the understanding that success is achieved through teamwork. - Recognize that communication is central to the organization’s success and actively champion your words and actions to maintain respect for others, encourage constructive feedback, be open to share laughter and acknowledge differences in skills and opinions, all while keeping others’ best intentions in mind. - At SIHB, we refer to our customers as Relatives. Serve the needs of our Relatives first by delivering the highest quality, professional, responsive, and innovative care. **Duties & Responsibilities:** - Duties will all be towards the day-to-day operation of the Elders Program, and may include any of the following: - Help with the opening and closing of the Program daily. - Support daily program upkeep: refilling coffee, serving breakfast and lunch, clearing trash from tables, and assisting Elder Relatives with requests. - Lead bi-weekly bingo. - Assess and identify financial/insurance coverage with Elder Relatives, specifically for Medicare and Medicaid. - Collaborate with Care Coordinators to assist relatives in obtaining medical care and scheduling appointments. - Provide resources and refer Elder Relatives to King County Social Services as needed. - Knowledge of medical center practices and procedures; familiarity with medical terminology and insurance coding. - Computer skills and software aptitude. - Provide excellent customer service. - Engage with community partners, attend site visits and Elders outings, and staff Eld…
