QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma or equivalent An Associate's Degree or 60 college credits or State/Local ParaPro Assessment test required Previous experience working with youth preferred Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification Ability to obtain a valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card Ability to participate in the District's Medicaid program KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of accepted behavior management techniques and practices working with persons with disabilities. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions. Ability to demonstrate interpersonal and problem-solving skills to address challenges related to special education services. Ability to maintain accurate records and reports, to monitor students, work with and secure the cooperation of students. Knowledge of all basic first aid methods, including CPR. Knowledge of specialized equipment used in the aid of children with special needs. Ability to operate computer equipment for email communications, word processing, data management, and other assigned tasks as related to the position. Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations. Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for working with students with disabilities. Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents, and community members. Utilize, with fidelity, the District Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) program at the building level. Ability to understand and maintain students' and parents' rights to confidentiality and not violate those rights; nor discuss students in inappropriate places or with anyone not in direct contact with such individual students. Ensure information obtained through the course of duties associated with this position, is held in the highest of confidentiality. Perform all duties in accordance with Federal and State laws, district procedures, and Board policies; including mandatory reporting procedures.
