## Description **POSITION:** Ophthalmic Assistant **REPORTS TO:** Clinical Manager **POSITION PURPOSE:** Deliver patient care in accordance with standards set forth by Clarus Eye Center. Prepare patients for eye examinations by physicians. Directly assist physicians in performance of clinical tasks **EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:** - A minimum of one-year experience in an ophthalmic practice. - One-year full time experience as an ophthalmic assistant - High School Diploma **QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:** - Strong technical proficiency and skills as outlined by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology - Demonstrate computer literacy - Effective communication skills - Ability to develop positive working relationships - Adaptability - Self confidence - Patient Focused **DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:** - Responsible for patient work-ups. Tasks include, but are not limited to: 1. History taking 2. Refractometry 3. Tonometry 4. Contact lens verification/ over-refraction 5. Intermediate diagnostic tests - Responsible for scribing physician’s examination data. This includes but is not limited to: 1. Intermediate knowledge of ocular anatomy and terminology 2. Basic knowledge of correct coding criteria 3. Intermediate knowledge of ophthalmic services and procedures - Properly triage acute conditions in person or via phone conversation - Assist physicians with minor procedures - Assist physicians with advanced diagnostic procedures - Other duties as assigned. **PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS** - Requires sitting for long periods of time. Must be able to safely assist patients in wheelchairs and walkers.
