**This position is part of the collective bargaining unit** **Position Summary:** Provides high quality nursing care for assigned patients in a scientific and humanistic focus. The Newly Licensed Registered Nurse (NLRN) utilizes a holistic systems approach to protect and promote client wellness and safety in the physiological, psychological, social cultural, developmental, and spiritual domains. Nursing interventions are interdisciplinary, age specific and are directed toward optimal wellness. **Education, License & Cert:** The NLRN must be a graduate of a Diploma, Associate Degree or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program and have passed the state board examination by the New York State Board of Nursing before beginning employment. NLRNs who are graduates of a Diploma or Associate Degree program or possess a non‐Nursing Bachelor’s Degree must demonstrate completion of a BSN program within 5 years of hire. The NLRN must successfully complete a medication and IV challenge examination, as outlined by the hospital within the orientation period, as well as maintain CPR certification. **Experience:** The NLRN enters practice at a Guthrie Hospital through the Newly Licensed Registered Nurse Residency Program. Clinical specialty tracks may be offered at individual hospitals. Registered nurses with less than one year’s experience must be hired through the program and may not be hired directly into an open position on any specific unit. **Essential Functions:** 1. Assessment: The NLRN collects data and information relative to the healthcare consumer’s health or the situation A. Involves patient, family, other healthcare providers in holistic data collection. B. Determines priority of data collections by the patient’s immediate condition or anticipated needs. C. Reviews patient record daily including physician progress notes, laboratory values and nurses’ notes. D. Documents data in a retrievable format. E. Utilizes evidence‐based assessment techniques and resources to identify patterns and variances F. Protects the privacy of collected data based on hospital policies 10. Fulfills professional role expectations and requirements. A. Shares knowledge and skills with peers and colleagues by recognizing and utilizing opportunities to teach other staff members, participating in orientation of new employees and collaborating with faculty in clinical experiences for healthcare students. B. Demonstrates a commitment to lifelong learning by assessing and identifying personal learn needs, developing a plan to maintain skills and competence in clinical practice or role performance, and then completing the plan. Maintains professional records that provide evidence of competency. C. Participates in performance improvement activities to initiate changes in nursing practice and in the healthcare delivery system. D. Participates in efforts to minimize costs unnecessary duplication in patient care. 2. Diagnosis: The NLRN analyzes the assessment data to determine actual or potential diagnoses, problems, and issues. A. Identifies actual and/or potential risks to health and safety, as well as barriers to health and uses data to classify diagnose, problems or issues B. Verifies the diagnosis, problems or issues with patient, family and other healthcare providers and prioritizes them based on goals which were mutually established. C. Documents problems in a manner that facilitates the determination of the expected outcomes and plan. 3. Outcomes Identification: The NLRN identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the healthcare consumer or the situation: A. Develops outcomes involving the patient, family and other healthcare providers when possible and appropriate. Outcomes will reflect a timeframe for attainment. The outcomes will provide for continuity and coordination of care which will be modified based on changes in the status of the patient or evaluation of the situation. B.
