Under general supervision, provides primary medical care (acute and chronic) and treatment for individuals in the specialty area of Developmental Disabilities; assumes responsibility for providing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for intermediate level and critically ill patient patient caseload. This position will also provide medical input as part of the ID Team. - Assumes responsibility for the management of care for assigned patient caseload within specialty areas of Family Practice and Developmental Disabilities. Evaluate patients' condition(s) make decisions regarding hospital admission and readmit patients when they return to a DDSN Regional Center. Diagnoses medical disorders and provides treatment as required to meet the health needs of consumers in assigned caseload. Documents medical status in SOAP format utilizing THERAP. Assist in coverage of other medical providers' caseloads as required. - Prepares medical histories and examines new consumers admitted to a DDSN Regional Center. Performs annual physicals on all consumers in assigned caseload. Performs admission procedures, including appropriate family history and complete physical examinations; distinguishes between normal and abnormal findings; orders diagnostic testing including radiological and laboratory studies; accurately interprets findings. - Determines a daily plan of care in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team. Writes daily orders for fluids, medications, nutrition, and respiratory management; evaluates patient response to medical treatment and makes changes; documents progress of patients and writes discharge/death summaries. Quarterly progress notes will be completed and submitted on all consumers on nurse practitioners case load. - Performs appropriate procedures including wound treatment and wound suturing as situations warrant. Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings as required to address patient care. Monitors delivered care for the consumers. - Participates with staff physicians on a flexible rotation basis providing medical coverage to consumers after hours, during holidays, and on weekends as per schedule. Provide on-call duties. - Primary responsible or assists in the coordination of specialty clinics on campus including, but not limited to, neurology and psychiatry. - Writes orders for medical/dental sedation and premeds as required. - Reviews newly hired employees health records, tests, and immunizations. The position for this posting is located at Midlands Regional Center, an Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF-IID) of BHDD-OIDD located in Columbia, SC serving residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.Graduation from an accredited school of nursing at the master's level or doctoral level acceptable to the Board to include clinical experience. Licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by the State Board of Nursing for South Carolina (Board). Knowledge and skill in assessment and management of physical and psychosocial health of persons, families and groups. Knowledge of physical and mental assessment skills for normal and high-risk patients. Knowledge of risk screening and developmental assessment tools.
