## Description **JOB PURPOSE:** The Nurse Educator provides expertise as an educator, consultant, facilitator and researcher. Designs, develops, delivers, and evaluates education. Coordinates orientation programs and initiatives based on patient, department, organization, and regulatory needs at the direction of the Nursing Education Coordinator. Performs as a clinical resource, providing evaluation of the practice environment and quality of nursing care delivered. Facilitates use of research and evidence based practice in clinical units. Maintaining an orientation program is critical to developing positive employee attitudes and job satisfaction. Assists in the transitions of the orientees to clinical practice. Coordinates orientation schedule for new employees with nurse manager and preceptor. Collaborates with new employee and nursing administration to ensure an individualized experience. Performs as a clinical resource, providing an evaluation of the practice environment and quality of care delivered. Facilitates use of research and evidence based practice in clinical units **EDUCATION:** Graduation from an accredited university with a Bachelors’ of Science in Nursing (BSN). Employee is trained and prepared to care for the age-specific group served on their assigned unit. **PREFERRED:** Masters’ of Science in Nursing. Previous training in Meditech applications. **LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/ REGISTRATION:** Possess current NYS license for Registered Professional Nurse. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification to be obtained within six (6) months of hire or transfer. **EXPERIENCE:** Three (3) years of acute care experience, with time spent on a Medical/Surgical Unit in a hospital. **PREFERRED:** Certified Nurse Educator. One (1) year prior experience in nursing management.
