TEGNA is looking for a news-hungry, social-savvy, data-driven Story Desk Editor to join our Central News Desk, which publishes national and trending content for TEGNA's 51 markets. We're looking for an experienced digital journalist with at least two years of professional experience writing and publishing digital news content for a local or national news organization. The ideal candidate is a strong storyteller with a mobile-first mindset who thrives in a fast-paced, breaking news environment and has a proven ability to make smart editorial decisions under deadline. The Story Desk Editor will maintain the top stories of the day while creating and curating compelling, shareable content for TEGNA stations nationwide. This person must react quickly to breaking news, identify emerging trends, and actively support the content needs of stations across the company. We're looking for someone who proactively pitches story ideas, collaborates well with others, and is passionate about delivering timely, accurate journalism. This role also provides editorial support to local stations during breaking news coverage. Candidates must have at least two years of experience writing and publishing digital news content for a local or national news organization. You must also be based in a TEGNA market. This position requires regular overnight and weekend shifts. In this role, you will: React quickly to breaking news and trends Maintain a daily budget of top national and trending stories Craft compelling headlines that drive audience engagement Write and publish engaging short- and long-form digital news stories Use social listening and SEO trends to identify unique story opportunities Support local stations during breaking news coverage Create and edit made-for-platform videos Use audience data and social analytics to inform content decisions Manage station requests and editorial priorities Strategize and execute multi-platform content plans for major events and projects Curate and manage third-party content Use AI tools to streamline newsroom workflows Help stations identify and share the best content across TEGNA Collaborate closely with digital producers across the country Respond quickly and professionally to requests from stations Job Requirements Minimum of two years of professional experience writing and publishing digital news content for a local or national news organization required Demonstrated experience covering breaking news in a digital newsroom Strong writing, editing and communication skills Solid news judgment and social media judgment Familiarity with digital and social analytics tools Knowledge of SEO best practices and audience trends Experience using a content management system (CMS) to publish news content (WordPress, Arc, BLOX, or similar) Familiarity with AI tools and newsroom automation platforms Basic image and video editing skills for multiple platforms strongly preferred Experience with live streaming software (vMix or similar) is a plus Ability to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, overnights and holidays as needed Leadership that aligns with our core values: demanding the truth, working smarter, doing the right thing and winning Pay Range $26.44 - $31.25 USD Benefits: TEGNA offers comprehensive benefits designed to safeguard the physical, mental and financial health of our employees and their families.
