Apply now to join an organization where you truly make a difference. **Job Duties and Preferred Qualifications:** The City of Virginia Beach Public Works Department is currently hiring a **Motor Equipment Operator II** to perform a variety of tasks in the Stormwater Maintenance division, duties to include: **Motor Equipment Operator II** - Operate an excavator for the completion of ditch maintenance activities such as mowing vegetation and grading. - Operate a light truck in carrying tools, equipment, and supplies, to and from the job site. - Operate a motor truck engaged in snow removal or sanding of icy streets and roads. - Operate a dump truck in connection with the transportation of sand, stone, gravel, and supplies. - Operate a Ditch Master. - Operate a laser level and grade rod for accurate measurements of ditch grades. - Service and perform minor repairs on automotive equipment, including, but not limited to, excavator, frontend loader, and backhoe. - Assist in loading and unloading materials and equipment transported by truck. - Position also requires a significant amount of work by hand when cleaning drainage structures, pipes, ditches, removing debris, cutting down trees, and shoveling sediment. - Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge, and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less. - Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on the current workloads and department needs. - Installation of erosion and sediment control applications for the excavation of off-road ditches. **An ideal candidate for the Motor Equipment Operator II:** - Experience using hand tools - Landscaping Experience - Drainage or utility maintenance experience - Familiarity with Miss Utility or Utility line location processes **Work Schedule** **: Monday – Thursday or Tuesday - Friday;** **6:30 am to 5:00 pm** **A pre-employment physical is required.** Must possess a Commercial Driver’s License – Class A (VA or NC) CDL Hiring Bonus – Newly hired employees with a valid Class A or B CDL will be eligible for a $4,000 hiring bonus paid in three increments during the first year of employment: - $1,000 with first paycheck - $1,000 first pay period following six-month interim eval (with “meets expectation” performance rating) - $2,000 at conclusion of probationary period (with “meets expectation” performance rating) This position is ALPHA 1 and is required to work during all inclement weather (flooding, hurricanes & snow, etc.). Must have a current and valid driver’s license. Special Requirements: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
