We are seeking a high-performing **Mobile Equipment Maintenance Manager** for our **Phenix City, AL** facility. In this role, you will lead the localized strategy, scheduling, and execution of all diagnostics, repair, service, and maintenance activities for our heavy diesel-powered mobile equipment, trucks, and scrap processing fleet. You will manage a team of heavy equipment mechanics to ensure maximum fleet uptime, tight budget control, and full compliance with industrial safety and environmental laws. **Key Responsibilities** **Fleet & Asset Maintenance** - Heavy Equipment Oversight: Manage all preventive and corrective maintenance for heavy mobile assets including material handlers, loaders, forklifts, bobcats, track shears, and commercial trucks/trailers. - Diagnostics & Major Systems: Oversee complex electrical, hydraulic, diesel engine, powertrain, and brake system troubleshooting and overhauls. - CMMS Mastery: Establish and maintain an electronic Computerized Maintenance Management System to track work orders, parts inventory, and equipment maintenance history. - Operational Alignment: Partner with the yard General Manager to schedule routine and emergency maintenance to minimize production downtime. **Safety, Compliance, & Environment** - Standards Enforcement: Strictly adhere to and enforce all SA Recycling Health, Safety, and Environmental practices. - Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all machinery and operations meet OSHA, EPA, and DOT standards. - Safe Shop Culture: Lead regular safety briefings, maintain a clean, orderly shop workspace, and audit proper tool/PPE usage. **Team Leadership & Operations** - Team Supervision: Schedule, monitor, and coach heavy mobile equipment mechanics and maintenance helpers. - Vendor & Parts Control: Manage the procurement of critical spare parts, optimize warehouse inventory levels, and handle local third-party contractor contracts. - Budget Accountability: Complete and track the local department maintenance budget, managing costs effectively to maximize asset lifecycles. **Position Requirements** - Experience: 5+ years of experience in heavy diesel-powered mobile equipment and truck maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management capacity. - Industry Background: Prior experience in scrap metal recycling, waste management, heavy construction, or mining environments is strongly preferred. - Technical Expertise: Strong technical knowledge of mobile hydraulics, diesel engines, heavy powertrains, welding/fabrication, and electrical diagnostics. - Physical Fitness: Must be physically fit to work outside in varied weather conditions.
