The Role Responsibilities The Cross Categorical Special Education Teacher at the middle school level provides individualized instruction and support to students with a range of disabilities, addressing academic, functional, social-emotional, and life skills. This role includes developing, implementing, and monitoring IEPs; modifying and adapting curriculum to meet diverse learning needs; supervising and supporting paraprofessional staff; and collaborating with families and multidisciplinary team members. The teacher also plays a key role in preparing students for post-secondary transitions, including employment, independent living, post-secondary education or training, and community involvement.
