Position: #710143 Program: Nursing Department: Health Services Reports to: Nursing Management Shift Differential: $1.75 per hour premium applies to evening and overnight hours (6 p.m.–6 a.m.). DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: As the nation’s largest and most experienced provider of LGBT medical and mental health services, we help LGBTQ people lead healthier, happier lives, by keeping their minds and body well. All services are free or low cost. We’re also one of the few Federally Qualified Health Centers in the nation with providers who specialize in primary care for LGBTQ people and with a research team working to advance the care and treatment of people in our community. JOB SUMMARY: The Medical Assistant serves as an integral member of the health services team by stocking and preparing supplies and equipment, providing direct patient care, supporting clinic flow, coordinating and promoting continuity of care, facilitating appropriate delivery of health services, coordinating consultations, and serving as an intermediary between patients and their healthcare provider as part of a multidisciplinary care team to provide a range of patient care services. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Serves as part of a multidisciplinary care team to provide a range of patient care services; • Works in collaboration with Medical Providers and other Health Services staff to maintain an effective and efficient program; • Facilitates patient access to healthcare; • Assures that the examination rooms are always clean and properly stocked with up-to-date equipment, non-expired supplies, disposable exam materials, and ensures that each exam room is set up in the same way; • Prepares the EMR prior to each visit and assures that all test results are available for review by the clinician with each visit; • Prepares the patient for the clinical visit including taking vital signs, preparing necessary instruments, equipment, etc. as needed for the visit. • Orders and administers vaccines following clinic protocols, places skin tests, and performs laboratory functions including processing as directed by licensed clinical staff; • Within MA scope of practice, administers treatments and services as ordered by Medical Provider; • Assists clients in completing paperwork, and assists nursing staff in obtaining authorizations for imaging referrals, as well as retrieval of reports in a timely manner; • Maintains complete and accurate files documenting all care and services provided in the patient’s health record; • Monitors clinic refrigerators and maintains temperature logs; notifies supervisor of any out-of-range temperatures; • Interacts in a professional manner with health services staff and patients; • Exercises appropriate judgment and decision-making skills; • Uses standard office machinery including personal computers and printers in performance of duties; • Assists in data auditing tasks; • Participates in staff meetings, agency meetings, planning meetings, and other meetings as needed; • Complies with requirements of OSHA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations; • Other duties as assigned. JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: • Prefer three years of experience in direct patient care; preferably in an ambulatory care setting; • Basic knowledge of infectious diseases; • Basic knowledge of care coordination and navigation throughout the managed care process; • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong organizational, detail, and interpersonal skills; • Excellent computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office, word processing, Electronic Health Records, and other software systems; • Ability to be self-m…
