Under the supervision of the Assistant Wastewater Treatment Plant Supervisor, this position performs, assists in, and is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of the wastewater treatment, wastewater collection, and water distribution systems. This position operates equipment such as jackhammers, pumps, air compressors, backhoes, and other equipment used in repair and maintenance of water and wastewater related equipment. May perform other related work as required. 1. Installs, maintains and repairs various components of the water and wastewater system. 2. Operate a variety of moderately heavy construction and maintenance equipment including jackhammers, backhoe, pumps, air compressors and other equipment 3. Operate and perform routine maintenance of mechanical equipment, including pumps and electric motors. 4. Operates sludge trucks and other equipment used in repair and maintenance of water and wastewater systems 5. Reads and interpret gauges and recording devices reflecting plant operations 6. Trouble shoots and repairs electrical circuits, motors and motor control 7. Trouble shoots and repairs pumps and plant related equipment 8. Works independently at times without close supervision and makes clear decisions 9. Responds to emergency calls. 10. Responds to SCADA alarms, monitor, identify and address the problem 11. Monitors gas/oxygen levels in confined spaces 12. Essential position requiring mandatory attendance in the event of storm, disaster or other circumstantial event 13. Serve in stand-by status after regular working hours on a rotating schedule. While on standby, respond to emergency and after hour trouble calls. 14. Responds to backed up sewer complaints that may be from a lift station malfunction 15. Assist in repairing and maintaining lift stations by replacing pipes and pumps 16. Determines equipment needed for assignment and load tools and equipment onto truck 17. Transports vehicles and equipment to job sites 18. Performs underground utility marking, as required 19. Locates, isolates and repair leaks on sewer lines 20. Clears stoppages on sewer lines by locating, replacing pipes 21. Digs holes and trenches manually and with power equipment 22. Set up safety equipment, including barricades, to protect crew and the general public 23. Reinforces shore trenches, according to safety guidelines 24. Repairs and replaces sewer mains and service lines 25. Checks sewer mains 26. Collection of water samples, testing, and recording of results 27. Preparation and transportation of samples to laboratory 28. Performance of various chemical examinations and conducts detailed analysis of treated and untreated wastewater 29. Operation of maintenance of water quality monitoring equipment 30. Setup and monitoring of composite recorder flows 31. Monitor of chlorine in storage tanks, distribution system, and point of inflow 32. Maintains files in accordance with stated and federal mandated testing procedures 33. Reads and interprets maps and drawings. 34. Performs water meter reading and utility locates. 35. Inspects water meter for proper operations 36. Install, maintain, remove and replace water meters, water hydrants and valves 37. Maintenance of equipment and vehicles according to safety and departmental procedures, including preparation of vehicle reports, maintaining correct fluid levels, safe operations, and keeping vehicles clean 38. Prepares Vehicle Repair Report form when needed High school or equivalent.- Possess a valid Texas Class C Driver License with a clean driving record. - Possess a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality “Class D” Wastewater Operator license and a “Class D” Water Operator license or be able to acquire both within 6 months.
