The purpose of this position is to perform maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks, storm drains, and perform vector control. This is accomplished by assessing worksite(s) for damage or needed repairs, completing maintenance and repairs by operating heavy equipment and machinery such as a backhoe, excavator, dump truck, roller, forklift, and following safety standards to ensure safe working conditions at all times. May work overtime and perform other duties as required. 1. Maintains and repairs streets ranging from pothole repair to rebuilding large sections of streets. 2. Maintains and repairs sidewalks and curbs. 3. Reads and interprets maps and/or drawings to determine work site location. 4. Operates street sweeper. 5. Determines equipment needed for assignment and loads tools and equipment onto truck. 6. Drives vehicle and equipment to job site. 7. Places barricades to protect workers and public. 8. Digs holes and trenches manually and with power equipment. 9. Operates light equipment, such as backhoes, single axle dump trucks and street sweeper. 10. Reinforces and shores trenches. 11. Responds to emergency calls. 12. Monitors gas and oxygen levels in confined spaces. 13. Follows all applicable safety rules and regulations. 14. Maintains vehicles and equipment. 15. Checks assigned vehicles and equipment for fluid levels and safe operation. 16. Cleans truck and equipment when needed. 17. Prepares Vehicle Repair Report Form when needed. 18. Follows all applicable safety rules and regulations. 19. Performs other related duties as assigned. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and related experience and/or training; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.Must possess a valid Texas Class C driver’s license with good driving record. Must possess or have the ability to acquire a valid Class B driver’s license within six (6) months of hire. Must possess or have the ability to acquire a valid Texas Department of Agriculture Noncommercial Political Pesticide Applicator license within six (6) months of hire.
