Maintenance Technician I- Parks

The purpose of this position is to perform mowing, weeding, trimming, pruning, and maintaining of City parks, buildings, facilities, medians, rights-of-ways, and tourist identified areas. Duties include litter removal, vehicle and equipment maintenance, playground equipment maintenance, plumbing, irrigation, carpentry, painting, and preparation for special events. Other duties may be assigned. Employee is considered essential, and attendance is mandatory in the event of a storm or disaster. Occasional overtime is required in evenings and weekends. May work overtime and perform other duties as required.1. Performs mowing, weeding, trimming and pruning of city parks, buildings, facilities, medians and right-of-ways 2. Maintains parks and facilities through litter removal, chemical spraying, drainage work and leveling, cleaning restrooms, and performing general maintenance duties. 3. Determines equipment needed for assignment and load tools and equipment onto vehicle needed for assignment 4. Transports vehicles and equipment to job sites 5. Set up safety equipment, including barricades, to protect crew and the general public 6. Maintains a safe work environment and demonstrate safe workplace behaviors, including wearing proper personal protective equipment and following safety rules and regulations 7. Works independently at times without close supervision and makes clear decisions 8. Essential position requiring mandatory attendance in the event of storm, disaster or other circumstantial event 9. Participates in construction and maintenance of playground equipment, small buildings, plumbing, electrical, irrigation, carpentry and painting 10. Participates in vehicle maintenance which includes minor repair and upkeep of trucks, tractors, and power hand tools 11. Participates in the preparation of special events Minimum qualifications require a High School Diploma or GED equivalent and Valid Texas Motor Vehicle Operator’s Class C License.
