To support operational excellence, staff well-being, regulatory compliance, and patient safety within a high-volume, 24-7 Emergency and Critical Care service, this position will provide complementary leadership coverage alongside the existing LVT Manager of ECC. The addition of a second manager will expand leadership capacity for proactive oversight, improve our responsiveness to staff and clinical needs, and strengthen leadership presence and operational consistency across all shifts. Structured overlap between ECC managers, including scheduled collaboration on Wednesdays, will facilitate continuity of projects, coordinated decision-making, and alignment of departmental priorities, and allow management to spend more time on the floor . Duties and Responsibilities: Purpose and Contributions of the Position Through this role, the AMC ECC Nursing Services will: Deliver exemplary, coordinated nursing and technical patient care aligned with AMC’s mission and core values. Partner with ECC team members and medical staff to continuously improve the quality and safety of patient care within the department and across AMC. Provide exceptional internal and external customer service in all interactions. Support and lead quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives within ECC services. Ensure staffing levels and operational workflows appropriately support patient care demands. Major strategic responsibilities and challenges Promote and model the mission, values, and professional standards of the Animal Medical Center. Assist in the development, planning, and implementation of short- and long-term departmental goals, including staff and departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Serve as a client and patient advocate, ensuring clear communication and efficient operations from the perspective of pets and their families. Collaborate with the LVT Director of ECC, LVT Manager of ECC, and clinical staff to develop, evaluate, and improve policies, protocols, and quality standards for ECC nursing and technical services, ensuring compliance with national standards and state regulatory requirements. Optimize patient flow and throughput across the Emergency Service and Intensive Care Unit. Lead initiatives supporting ICU and Emergency Service nursing care while proactively addressing workload balance, staff wellness, and burnout mitigation. Provide feedback and consultation to the ECC Director regarding nursing service performance, operational challenges, and personnel concerns. Foster strong interdisciplinary collaboration among nursing services, veterinarians, and other departments Work closely with section heads and medical staff to support clinical excellence and organizational goals. Serve as a visible role model for professionalism, teamwork, and institutional commitment; act as ambassador for ECC within the hospital as an ambassador for the institution within the larger veterinary community. Major operational responsibilities and challenges Plan, coordinate, and oversee day-to-day nursing and technical operations within the Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Service. Develop and maintain ECC support staff schedules, utilizing real-time problem-solving to ensure appropriate coverage and operational continuity. Assist with payroll as needed Serve as a working supervisor, providing direct clinical support as an LVT approximately 60% of the time , delivering patient care while mentoring and coaching staff in real time. Monitor and support the consistent delivery of high-quality nursing and technical care. Facilitate weekly staff forums to promote open communication, collaborative problem-solving, and continuous improvement. Oversee ordering, maintenance, and inventory management for patient care equipment, medications, instruments, and supplies, ensuring readiness and compliance with sterilization and maintenance standards.
