## Description **6Light Duty Mechanic** [Department of Public Works Fleet Maintenance Division](https://troymi.gov/departments/public_works/fleet_maintenance/index.php) Starting at: $31.03/hour additional $2.50 shift premium After 3 years $32.94/hour *Per AFSCME\* contract* *Opportunities for hourly bonuses for additional ASE certifications (up to $3.00)* *Uniform allowance of $450 per fiscal year provided to each active employee.* Posting Date: July 9, 2026 Closing Date: **Open Until Filled** **DUTIES** Perform automotive and equipment mechanical work at an intermediate level (on vehicles and equipment including trucks, vehicles, tractors, mowers, backhoes, loaders, graders, etc.), vehicle diagnostics, drivability, electrical system troubleshooting, and installation and removal of emergency lighting and radio equipment. Perform general labor and service work and other similar work assignments. **** **REQUIREMENTS** · High school (or GED equivalent) or mechanic trade school graduate. · Two (2) years current full-time paid experience as an automotive light-medium truck and off-road equipment mechanic/technician. · An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered for this position. · Knowledge of gasoline and diesel equipment operation principles and applicable mechanical repair methods. · Must have at the time of application, and maintain, a valid Michigan driver license with a good driving record (based on City of Troy standards). · Before initial probation period is complete applicant must obtain a CDL, including air brakes (A) and tanker (N) endorsement and Medical Card, as required by the State of Michigan and a State of Michigan Master Mechanic in Automobile/Light Truck Certification and maintain the certifications throughout employment. · Applicants must meet [LEIN (Law Enforcement Information Network)](https://www.michigan.gov/msp/0,4643,7-123-3493_72291---,00.html) security standards in order to have access to the Police Department. · As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen (including marijuana). **PREFERENCES** · Four (4) years recent experience as an automotive light-medium truck and off-road equipment mechanic/technician service. · Current State of Michigan Master Mechanic in Automobile/Light Truck and Master ASE Automobile Technician certifications; applicants with relevant certifications may be considered before those without. **Applicant must provide copy of certification(s) or wallet certificate with application.** · Training in vehicle/equipment maintenance from a vocational or trade school. · Current CDL (Commercial Driver’s License). **EVALUATION PROCESS** will consist of: | TYPE Demonstration\* Interview | WEIGHT | ***\* Current ASE Master Automotive Technician Certification*** ***will waive demonstration requirement;*** ***interview will be weighted 100%.*** | | --- | --- | --- | | 50% | | 50% | | | 100% | Applicants must receive at least a score of 70 on each portion be placed on the eligible list. **SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS** · Applicants must receive at least a score of 70 on both the interview and demonstration to be placed on the eligible list. · Successful applicant to be appointed within eight (8) weeks of formally accepting the position. · Vacancy will be filled pursuant to Article 22 Posting of Vacancy in the current AFSCME collective bargaining agreement. **HOURS** Current shift is Monday – Friday, 4:00 pm – 12:30 am. Overtime is required; employees must work at least 50% of overtime occurrences offered.
