This is a **seasonal summer position**, don’t miss the opportunity to apply. ## Description The New Haven YMCA Youth Center Y, is seeking dedicated and safety-conscious **Lifeguards** to join our team! As a **Lifeguard**, you will play a key role in ensuring the safety of all participants, maintaining a welcoming and positive aquatic environment, and upholding YMCA standards. The lifeguard position ensures aquatic safety through vigilant surveillance, rule enforcement, and prompt response to emergencies. Completes required certifications, in-service trainings, and facility checks. **Key Responsibilities:** - Ensure safe swimming conditions by maintaining constant visual attention and remaining alert while on duty. - Enforce all YMCA policies, rules, and safety regulations to prevent accidents and promote a safe environment. - Respond immediately and effectively to emergency situations, performing first aid and CPR as needed. - Conduct routine pool and equipment checks, ensuring proper cleanliness and safety standards. - Engage with members and promote YMCA aquatic programs and services. - Attend all mandatory meetings and training sessions to maintain skill proficiency. - Serve as an ambassador for the YMCA, fostering a supportive and inclusive community. ## Requirements - Must be 16 years of age or older (under 18 years requires working papers/proof of age). - Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration certification – *Required for job placement* - Current YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent certification – *Required for job placement* - Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness - Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards - Must successfully complete a swimming and physical skills test upon hire, and annually according to CCC YMCA parameters - Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others - Effective communication skills necessary to inform, counsel, motivate, and support members - Must be observant, safety-conscious and able to react calmly and quickly in an emergency - Able to work weekend schedules **Trainings & Certifications** - Must complete online New Employee Orientation, Child Abuse Prevention, Mandated Reporter, Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazard Communication, and Employee Safety trainings prior to start of position. - Must complete department onboarding within the first 90-days of employment. - Must hold and maintain American Red Cross, YMCA, or equivalent lifeguard certification, CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications – *required for job placement*. - Must complete Emergency Oxygen Administration Certification within the first 90 days of employment.
