Job Title: Life Skills Trainer FLSA Status: Non-Exempt/Full-Time Reports To: Program Manager Pay Range: $21.15/hour - $26.44/hour Program Type: Single & Family *House of Ruth salaries may be adjusted up or down contingent on the agency’s financial position with due notice. * Organizational Overview: House of Ruth offers comprehensive services and housing for women and children. Our services range from supportive housing for families and single women in crisis, to a therapeutic, developmental daycare for homeless children, and free counseling services to anyone who has been a victim of domestic violence. Position Summary: The Life Skills Trainer is responsible for teaching a range of daily living and coping skills to women and children to ensure their well-being, receive services, and maintain effective program operations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Engage the women and/or children to develop rapport, support case management goals and assist in meeting their needs. Provide crisis intervention and intervenes during an incident. Provide positive role modeling. Conduct client in-takes. Develop skills and facilitate and support groups. Teach a range of daily living, coping and social skills to women and/or children. (i.e. emotional self-management, parent/child interactions, problem solving, safety planning, communication, cooking, budgeting, time management, organizational skills.) Help maintain a safe, secure and non-violent environment for all occupants. Regularly monitor the entire building and the activities and behavior of the occupants. Effectively manage all emergencies by following procedures. Complete apartment and/or room inspections and bed checks. Report on maintenance problems. Organizes and conducts on-site and community-based social-recreational activities. Directly assist women and /or children in completing tasks. Provide childcare as needed. Ensure that the women and/or children adhere to the agreed upon program expectations and address instances of non-adherence. Monitor medications and complete related documentation. Conduct urine toxicology screens and complete related documentation. Conducts evacuation drills and documents. Interact with internal staff and contacts from other organizations to meet the coordinated needs of the women and/or children. Screen telephone calls and walk-ins, provide crisis intervention and make appropriate referrals. Communicate all crucial issues to appropriate staff. Read and complete all relevant documentation and forms. Transport individuals to appointments, activities and shopping trips. Distribute and monitor supplies and materials. Maintains an organized, clean work environment. Maintain log and distributes mail and funds. Attend all training courses and meetings. Completes other duties as needed. Education and/or Experience: Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent. Associate's degree preferred. Minimum of two years of experience in a similar role preferred. Must be able to work a flexible schedule in a 24/7 operation and be on call as needed, including some weekends. Pre-employment Qualifications: Successfully passing the following pre-employment process is required: FBI Fingerprint/Background Check Alcohol and drug Test TB Test Police Clearance Must be fully vaccinated Must have a valid driver’s license Skills: Strong analytical, planning and organizing skills. Self-starter with good time management skills. Strong working knowledge of MS Office 365. High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Good problem-solving skills. Team player with demonstrated ability to work with cross functional teams. Ability to communicate and present across levels up to executive leadership. Demonstrated ability to teach others. Exhibit a passion for working with women and/or children.
