The Lawn Maintenance Technician maintains the physical grounds of the Juvenile Services Facility. This role ensures a safe, clean, and secure outdoor environment for youth residents, staff, and visitors. The position combines professional landscaping duties with strict adherence to institutional security protocols. ·**Grounds Care:** Mow, edge, weed, and trim all lawn areas, fields, and ornamental gardens. ·**Equipment Operation:** Safely operate commercial mowers, weed eaters, blowers, hedge trimmers, and hand tools. ·**Debris Removal:** Clear grounds, walkways, and parking lots of trash, leaves, sticks, and safety hazards. ·**Seasonal Maintenance:** Prune trees, plant flowers, spread mulch, and perform snow/ice removal during winter. ·**Tool Accountability:** Inventory, secure, and lock up all tools and chemicals daily to prevent unauthorized access. ·**Facility Safety:** Report perimeter fence damage, blind spots, or suspicious items found on the grounds immediately. ·**Chemical Application:** Apply fertilizers and weed control safely according to state laws and facility policies. ·**Equipment Upkeep:** Perform basic routine maintenance on landscaping machinery, including washing and refueling. - Safely and properly, all lawn maintenance equipment operates. - Must be able to effectively use/wear required safety equipment such as eye protection, masks, respirators, gloves, etc. - Follow written and verbal instructions. - Comply with detailed label precautions. - Attention to detail. - Ability to multi-task. - Ability to work independently with little supervision. - Respectful of personal property and working spaces. - Ability to work cooperatively with co-workers and interact well with county employees and the public. - Contributes to creating a positive work environment. - Maintain responsible and effectual performance and attendance. Other Duties: - Assist with set-up and clean up for various events. - Lock and unlock assigned buildings as needed. - May be required to occasionally arm and dis-arm alarm systems. - Attend safety meetings and other related meetings. - Notify supervisor or management of occurring deficiencies or needs for repairs. - High School diploma or G.E.D. preferred. - Previous lawn maintenance experience is preferred. **Physical Demands and Work Environment** - The Lawn Maintenance Technician must be able to climb stairs, push, pull, reach and lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. - Very good physical condition and strength are required. - The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. - Hand strength and dexterity are required to handle and feel objects, grasp tools, operate controls and climb ladders. - Must be able to verbally communicate with others and hear to receive instructions. - Have essential and metal capabilities in the following: Interpersonal skills, memory, attention to detail, follow directions, comprehension, calculating, reading, writing, speaking, evaluating, simple mathematics, organizing and innovation. - Occasionally required to sit. - Must be able to frequently squat, stoop or kneel. - Ability to bend or twist at the neck. - Must be able to perform work in dusty environments. - Must be able to perform work while wearing a protective mask.
