## Description **JOB DESCRIPTION** The Kitchen Coordinator will assist in dinner preparation for 30 residents, managing a kitchen facility and dining area. In addition, will shop and coordinate the training of kitchen assistants in food preparation and service skills. A culinary degree may be substituted for one year of experience. Ability to provide healthy, non-institutional meals for 30 individuals. Knowledge of nutrition and meal planning. Ability to adhere to a budget. Good written and oral English communication skills. Ability to work as member of a team, to accept supervision, to maintain appropriate boundaries while working in close inter-personal relationships. Ability to train residents in basic cooking and nutrition. Good organizational skills. Ability to be responsible, flexible, creative, empathetic, and able to relate effectively with clients, other staff, professionals and members of the community. Drivers license for at least two years and driving record acceptable to insurance carrier. Valid California driver's license; auto in safe operating condition; auto liability insurance; good driving record; criminal record clearance; proof of authorization to work in the United States as required by Immigration and Reform Act of 1986. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. **ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** - Assume primary responsibility for the preparation of nutritious, balanced, varied meals, with an emphasis on simple, whole, non-institutional foods. - Work closely with residents to plan and shop for meals. Look for ways to maximize resident involvement in the planning process. - Utilize community resources to buy nutritious foods as cheaply as possible (e.g., Food Bank, bulk buying from Health Food stores and Co-ops, outreach with local restaurants, solicitation of donations, etc.). Model this behavior for residents. - Be responsible for maintaining a clean and hygienic kitchen.
