SUMMARY: The Girls Basketball Junior Varsity Coach is responsible for supporting the mission and vision of Hopkins High School by developing student-athletes through skill instruction, teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth. The Junior Varsity Coach works closely with the Head Girls Basketball Coach to implement a consistent program philosophy while preparing student-athletes for success at the varsity level. The coach is expected to foster a positive, inclusive, and competitive environment that emphasizes academic achievement, character development, leadership, and respect for teammates, opponents, officials, and the community. The position serves as an important mentor to student-athletes and helps create a culture that reflects the values of Hopkins High School and the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL). ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Program Development Implement the philosophy, culture, and expectations established by the Head Girls Basketball Coach. Teach basketball fundamentals, individual skill development, offensive and defensive concepts, and team strategies appropriate for the junior varsity level. Prepare athletes for advancement into the varsity program through consistent instruction and player development. Plan and conduct organized, safe, and engaging practices. Evaluate player performance and provide constructive feedback that promotes improvement. Student-Athlete Development Foster sportsmanship, leadership, accountability, teamwork, and resilience. Build positive relationships with student-athletes while serving as a mentor and role model. Promote academic success and encourage responsible decision-making. Support the physical, emotional, and social well-being of student-athletes. Create an inclusive environment where every athlete feels valued and respected. Communication and Collaboration Maintain effective communication with the Head Coach regarding player development, team needs, and program goals. Communicate professionally with student-athletes, parents, school staff, officials, and community members. Support fundraising efforts and community engagement activities as directed by the Head Coach or Athletic Department. Attend coaches' meetings, professional development opportunities, and required athletic department training. Safety and Compliance Ensure the safety and welfare of all student-athletes.
