Riggs School of Applied Life Sciences **Job Description:** **Position Overview:** The primary responsibility of the Adjunct Faculty member is teaching. We are seeking adjunct instructors to teach the following course at Keck Graduate Institute (KGI): ENG 5160 Introduction to Bioprocessing (Fall semester, 1.5 credits) **Course Description:** Bioprocessing is the application of biological systems and organisms by bioengineers and scientists to achieve research, industrial, and healthcare objectives. Within the healthcare industry, bioprocessing plays a critical role in translating life science discoveries into viable healthcare treatments and driving advancements in biopharmaceuticals, vaccines, and cell and gene therapies. This course provides a foundational understanding of biotechnology, with a particular focus on the Biopharmaceutical industry, and introduces the operations and principles employed by bioprocess engineers. Students will explore the scientific, business, and practical aspects of biomanufacturing, gain insights into the biomanufacturing landscape, and develop the skills necessary to contribute to the successful development and commercialization of biopharmaceuticals. The successful candidate must share in the mission of KGI and the Henry E. Riggs School of Applied Life Sciences Programs. The Adjunct Faculty member reports directly to the Dean of the Henry E. Riggs School of Applied Life Sciences and works collaboratively with the Program Directors and other faculty. Located in beautiful Claremont, California, Keck Graduate Institute is a member of the prestigious Claremont Colleges, a consortium of five undergraduate liberal arts colleges, two graduate institutions, and The Claremont Colleges Services, which provide shared institutional support services. **Education and Experience:** A minimum of a Master’s degree in a related field. A doctoral degree is strongly preferred. A minimum of 2 years of teaching experience. Prior experience in teaching for active learning preferred. Experience with the Canvas learning management system is a plus. **Essential Functions and Responsibilities:** Individuals must possess knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential function of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions may be performed, with or without, reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities. - Provides high-quality student instruction - Evaluates student performance (e.g., written assignments, examinations, in-class activities); - Provides remedial instruction as needed - Other duties as assigned. **Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**: Individuals must possess knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential function of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions may be performed, with or without, reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities. - Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a team and collaboratively with other departments. - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing; possess the ability to listen to all points of view, build consensus, and inform others of policies and decisions. - Demonstrated ability to analyze and present complex issues to diverse individuals and groups. - Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities. **Hours, Classification, and Status:** This is a part-time, exempt, adjunct faculty position and is not eligible for benefits. Schedules will vary depending on course assignments and the needs of the department or the Institute.
