Instructional Faculty - Archaeology/Anthropology (1- year Provisional)

**Please note, this position will be in person, to be located in the Pima County/Tucson area.** **About the Division** The **Humanities and Social Sciences** division at Pima Community College serves as the core foundation for General Education, critical thinking, and global awareness across the college. Designed around seamless university transfer pathways, the division allows students to dive into diverse fields such as anthropology, history, psychology, sociology, political science, philosophy, ethnic studies, and gender studies. Through flexible learning options, including in-person, hybrid, and fully online coursework via the top-ranked PimaOnline platform, students typically pursue an Associate of Arts (Liberal Arts) degree that sets them up for long-term success. Additionally, the Division includes certificates for direct employment in Field Archaeology and Social Services. The division is innovative and community-focused, housing experiential learning opportunities such as the college's Archaeology Center, Study Abroad programs, a public Vote Center, and the Aztec Resource Center Food Pantry. **About the Archaeology Field Training Program and the Archaeology Center** Pima Community College’s (PCC’s) Field Archaeology training program has played an important role in the archaeological community of southern Arizona for the past five decades. PCC graduates are widely known for their practical knowledge and hands-on skills and are consistently successful in the industry. The Program is open-access and affordable, providing an entry point for underrepresented students who might not otherwise pursue a career in archaeology. The Field Training program is home-based in the Archaeology Center which supports classes with full and part-time staff, equipment, software and student tutoring. **About the Position** The position is available for the 2026-27 academic year as a 1- year provisional contract. Faculty teach and work a set schedule over a nine-month academic year, August–May, that could include day, evening, and weekend duties. The faculty member in this position will be primarily responsible for teaching hands-on classes in archaeological methods that are part of Pima Community College’s Field Archaeology Certificate Program. These include field and laboratory classes in archaeological survey and excavation methods, artifact analysis, GPS use, and archaeological mapping techniques. The faculty member might also teach lecture, hybrid, or online classes in archaeology or other subfields of anthropology. The faculty member will serve as the Principal Investigator for archaeological projects undertaken by the field classes and/or the Archaeology Center. Faculty may be asked to teach on various campuses, in-person, online, hybrid, and virtual learning environments. Divisions may employ emerging approaches such as fast-track, IBEST, and dual enrollment as appropriate.
