TITLE: Infant/Toddler Classroom Assistant FLSA Status: Non-Exempt/Hourly Review/updated: 6/2026 REPORTS TO: Classroom Teacher ## JOB SUMMARY: The Infant/Toddler Classroom Assistant supports the Classroom Teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for infants and toddlers from birth to age three. The Classroom Assistant helps implement daily classroom activities, promotes children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development, and assists with maintaining a clean, organized, and engaging classroom. The Classroom Assistant works collaboratively with the Classroom Teacher and other staff to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of every child while fostering positive relationships with families. ## EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent required. Coursework or experience in Early Childhood Education is preferred. Previous experience working with infants, toddlers, or young children in an early childhood setting is preferred. Current CPR certification through the American Heart Association, or the ability to obtain certification upon hire. ## REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES: Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a classroom team. Basic understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate practices. Ability to follow classroom routines, policies, and procedures. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to establish positive relationships with children, families, and coworkers. Demonstrates patience, flexibility, and a caring approach when working with young children. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Basic computer skills, including Google Workspace or related software. ## ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assist the Classroom Teacher in providing a nurturing, safe, and engaging learning environment. Support implementation of developmentally appropriate activities that promote children's growth and learning. Interact positively with children through play, conversation, and daily routines to encourage language development and social emotional growth. Help maintain a consistent daily schedule, including meals, diapering, toileting, naps, transitions, and classroom activities. Assist with supervising children at all times to ensure their safety and well-being. Build positive, responsive relationships with children to promote a sense of security and belonging. Assist with classroom setup, organization, cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining learning materials. Support the Classroom Teacher in documenting children's daily activities and routines using Brightwheel software. Assist with maintaining attendance records and documenting accidents, incidents, and other required reports. Communicate professionally and respectfully with families under the guidance of the Classroom Teacher. Report accidents, illnesses, injuries, or unusual behaviors to the Classroom Teacher immediately. Work cooperatively with the Classroom Teacher, Early Childhood Special Education staff, therapists, Center Coordinator, and other team members. Follow all Child Development Services policies, licensing regulations, health and safety requirements, and confidentiality standards. Attend required staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities. ## OTHER DUTIES: This job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, or activities required of the position.
