Assist in maintaining the technical infrastructure for the City of Portland by assisting with design, specifications, configurations, installations, and maintenance of local area network hardware, software, and telecommunications services; purchasing and maintaining equipment inventory; user setup, maintenance, security, and training; and resolving operational issues. Special projects for IT Technicians may include minor building maintenance associated with technology-related installations and other tasks as assigned. 1. Responds to the needs and questions of network users concerning their access to resources on the network and operation of various software programs 2. Train users on software and equipment usage 3. Responding to trouble tickets 4. Monitor and react to the internal Nagios warning system 5. Purchase, installation, and setting up of new equipment 6. Evaluating immediate and long-term needs for individuals and departments 7. Provide prompt replacement schedules to reduce down time 8. Perform regular maintenance on end user systems 9. Monitor and prepare for use of expendable supplies (i.e. printer toner) 10. Provide appropriate cabling infrastructure 11. Provide appropriate battery backup systems 12. Maintain records of all end user equipment 13. Provide audio/visual services for public meetings held in council chambers 14. Provide audio/visual services for off-site needs 15. Provide audio/visual services for training needs 16. Ensure all audio/visual aids for 911 emergency systems are functional 17. Tower climbing 18. Antenna maintenance and installation 19. Identify onsite issues versus Verizon/AT&T issues and contact third parties when necessary 39. T1 and Gateway maintenance and configurations 40. Provide appropriate cabling infrastructure 41. Provide appropriate battery backup systems 42. On-Call emergency response 24/7 43. Data recovery from failed storage devices 44. Provide complete backup services for all necessary systems (i.e. databases, system images, configurations) 45. Equipment replacement from spares as needed 46. Interim working solution while primary systems are repaired •Associate’s degree or equivalent required •A+, CCNA and MCDSP certification preferred. •Five years desktop and server support, including Microsoft and Unix/Linux/BSD operating systems experience. •Two years relational database administration and/or database development experience. •Application development experience preferred. •Fiber optic experience preferred.
