This entry-level position involves reviewing patient health information and assigning standardized codes for diagnoses, procedures, and services using ICD, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems. The role ensures that all coded data meets regulatory requirements and supports the integrity of patient records and reimbursement processes. The HIM Coder I collaborates closely with healthcare providers, billing teams, and compliance officers to clarify documentation and resolve discrepancies. Ultimately, this position contributes to the overall quality and accuracy of health information management within the organization. **Minimum Qualifications:** - High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in Health Information Management or related field preferred. - Basic knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology. - Familiarity with ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems. - Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret clinical documentation accurately. - Proficiency with computer systems and electronic health records. **Preferred Qualifications:** - Certification as a Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or an equivalent nationally recognized coding certification - Experience working in a healthcare setting or medical coding environment. - Knowledge of healthcare reimbursement methodologies and compliance regulations. - Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with clinical and administrative staff. - Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment. **Responsibilities:** - Review and analyze patient medical records to identify relevant diagnoses and procedures. - Assign appropriate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes based on clinical documentation and coding guidelines. - Ensure coding accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and payer regulations. - Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and obtain additional information as needed. - Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding standards, regulations, and industry best practices. - Assist in resolving coding discrepancies and support audits or quality assurance activities. - Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems and coding software to input and manage cod…
