Highway Maintenance Worker II - Bridge Crew Equipment Operator (61036461)

Performs skilled labor and excavator operation in setting, driving, and cutting of treated timber and steel piles. Responsible for setting concrete caps and bridge deck slabs. Performs skilled labor and backhoe operation in grading, constructing catch basins, setting forms, and pouring and finishing concrete for bridge caps, sidewalks, and curb and gutter. Operates a lowboy truck tractor as necessary to transport the crane, materials, and/or other equipment where needed. Performs manual labor while constructing handrails, attaching bridge hardware, cleaning bridge decks, and other associated maintenance activities. Assists with emergency and inclement weather operations. May include extended hours and/or 12-hour shifts. One (1) year of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position. The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal scheduled work week; especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies.
