Guidance Counselor JobID: 835 Position Type: Student Support Services/Guidance Counselor Date Posted: 7/16/2026 Location: Long Cane Primary Date Available: 07/29/2026 Closing Date: 07/22/2026 Additional Information: Show/Hide Guidance Counselor Position Purpose Under the general supervision of the Principal, to provide a comprehensive, developmental school counseling program that promotes the academic, social-emotional, and career awareness development of all students. Essential Performance Responsibilities Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model, state standards, and district priorities. Provide classroom guidance lessons that promote academic achievement, social-emotional learning, conflict resolution, character development, and personal safety. Conduct individual and small-group counseling to address students' academic, behavioral, social, and emotional needs. Assist students in developing age-appropriate skills related to self-awareness, emotional regulation, decision-making, problem-solving, and interpersonal relationships. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, school psychologists, social workers, nurses, and other support personnel to identify and address student needs. Participate in Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), Response to Intervention (RTI), Section 504, Individualized Education Program (IEP), Child Study, and other student support meetings as appropriate. Analyze attendance, behavior, and academic data to identify trends, monitor interventions, and improve student outcomes. Coordinate and implement school-wide programs focused on bullying prevention, character education, mental wellness, school safety, attendance improvement, and positive school climate. Provide crisis intervention, risk assessments, and referrals to appropriate mental health or community agencies when necessary. Serve as a liaison between the school, families, and community organizations to connect students with needed services and resources. Consult with parents and guardians regarding student development, academic progress, attendance, behavior, and available support services. Participate in professional learning activities and remain current on best practices in school counseling, child development, and student mental health. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent. Additional Duties Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent. Equipment Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copiers, and telephone systems. Travel Requirements Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of college/university admissions processes, scholarship programs and other educational opportunities. Knowledge of current developments in business and industry regarding career opportunities and employment. Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles. Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students. Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed. Ability to organize and coordinate work. Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
