Group Exercise Instructor

The Group Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading safe, effective, and engaging group fitness classes for YMCA members of varying fitness levels. Instructors create a welcoming environment that promotes health and wellness, encourages member retention, and reflects the core values of the YMCA: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. - Plan and lead group fitness classes following YMCA guidelines and safety protocols. - Provide modifications and progressions to accommodate all fitness levels. - Arrive on time, prepared, and maintain a clean and professional appearance. - Build relationships with participants to encourage class attendance and healthy lifestyles. - Ensure the fitness studio or exercise area is clean, organized, and equipment is used properly. - Respond to emergencies according to YMCA procedures. - Record class attendance as required. - Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and continuing education as needed. - Uphold YMCA policies, mission, and core values. - Current Group Fitness Instructor certification (e.g., ACE, AFAA, NASM, ACSM, or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise). - CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or willing to obtain within 30 days of hire). - Previous experience teaching group fitness classes preferred. - Strong communication and interpersonal skills. - Ability to motivate and inspire individuals in a group setting. - Ability to lead physical fitness activities for extended periods. - Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 30 lbs.
