Under general supervision, Groundskeepers inspect and perform general grounds maintenance (including mowing, weeding, edging, pruning, raking, etc), snow removal, litter/trash disposal, shipment/receiving, and campus event or office set-up. **GENERAL DUTIES:** - Perform daily work orders/instructions as assigned by the Facilities Director or other supervisors/leads. - Mow lawn. - Edge sidewalks. - Weed eat around trees, building, shrubs, ditch lines, etc. - Prune and trim shrubs. - Apply herbicides and fertilizers to lawns and shrubs per safety requirements. - Landscape or improve the appearance of grounds by planting trees, flowers, shrubs, and grasses; may alter the layout and contours of the grounds. - Pick up trash from assigned areas and keep assigned areas in a neat and orderly fashion. - Inspect and remove litter, debris, snow, and ice from campus grounds. - Inspect and operate grounds equipment including power tools and snow plows. - Service and maintain grounds equipment (i.e. perform tune ups, change oil, clean and replace filters, gaskets, etc; sharpen tools; and ensure equipment is in proper working condition. - Perform event set-up and tear-down (including moving and/or storing tables, chairs, and other equipment) - Deliver, assemble, and/or move office furniture, supplies, equipment, etc. - Receive and deliver mail, packages, and shipments to assigned campus destinations. - Assist other grounds keepers and maintenance workers when necessary. - Maintain supplies including hazardous materials, safety equipment, and cleaning supplies. - Maintain ledger of grounds work orders. - Oversee and/or assist student and other workers. - Perform other duties as assigned. **POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:** - High school diploma or equivalent, 1 to 2 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. - Must be a steady, reliable worker. - Must be able to read simple instructions and follow simple diagrams. - Must be able to perform simple tasks independently after being given instructions. - Must have general knowledge of simple equipment used in grounds maintenance. - Must possess a valid Driver’s License and be able to use snowplow blade on pickup truck. - Willing to use personal vehicle to perform maintenance tasks on campus. - Willing to be available and work flexible hours for weather related and emergency needs (i.e. early call in, weekend call in and after hours call back). - Willing to participate in special training classes as required. - Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co- workers, campus community, and public. **PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:** - Must be willing and able to work outdoors all year with exposure to extreme heat and cold temperatures/weather - Manual dexterity sufficient to use hand tools and to paint. - Must have sufficient strength and manual dexterity to operate power equipment. - Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. - Must be able to stand, crouch, and climb to use ladders and perform various types of manual labor. - Must know how to operate power mowers, chain saw, power hedge trimmers, and power leaf removal equipment. **APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:** Qualified applicants must submit an application or resume, including the names and contact information of at least three references to: Tim Swann, Interim Director of Maintenance and Grounds, throught the University's online application portal.
