Initial placement for new employees is customarily at entry level through 35% percentile. Pay grade for this position is 12.** **The typical work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This role may require occasional overtime and after-hours work as needed. Due to the essential nature of this position, the employee must be available for contact and may be required to report on-site during emergency situations.** **General Definition of Work:** Performs responsible semiskilled work in a variety of landscaping and grounds maintenance assignments; frequently operates specialized and other equipment in connection with the tasks to which assigned; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision of the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor. **Essential Functions/Typical Tasks:** **Mowing, seeding, planting, pruning, trimming, spraying and fertilizing grass, trees, shrubs, bushes, hedges and flowers; performing a variety of landscaping and grounds maintenance activities; operating, maintaining and repairing equipment.** *(These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.)* - Performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance of parks, playing fields and other public areas. - Sows and mows grass; plants, prunes and trims trees, shrubs and bushes. - Rakes and collects leaves; sprays pesticides. - Plants flowers; applies fertilizer. - Maintains and repairs irrigation systems. - Maintains ball fields; prepares fields for games; ensures fields are ready for games. - Prepares parks for special events; maintains baseball, softball and football fields; repairs playground equipment. - Participates in inclement weather operations. - Edges sidewalks, borders and plant beds; trims weeds, grass and hedges. - Operates mowers, tractors, dump truck and hand tools in performance of tasks. - Performs related tasks as required. **Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:** General knowledge of the use of common hand and specialized power tools; general knowledge of the safe use and operation and preventive maintenance of equipment used in landscaping grounds maintenance; skill in the use of equipment to which assigned; ability to perform labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates. **Education and Experience:** Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. Some experience as a semiskilled worker in grounds maintenance and in the operation of motorized equipment is strongly preferred. **Some county job postings indicate that you can qualify with an "equivalent combination of education and experience."
