Join us and be a part of something special! ## Description To assist in maintaining the school physical plant in optimum operating condition. ***Days 236*** ## Requirements **Responsibilities:** - Maintain and use efficiently the materials, equipment and other properties of the school district - Take reasonable precautions in advance to protect the immediate surroundings of any given job area - Interpret drawings, plans, sketches, and specifications to determine materials required for construction to be completed - Select and arrange materials - Identify laminates, adhesives, films, and software for graphics and signage - Measure and pre-cut materials - Operate shop and portable equipment - Repair/fabricate signs and graphics indoors and out, using correct fonts and ADA Guidance - Repair structural members - Repair trusses - Repair damaged sheathing, siding and trim - Construct cabinets, shelving units and other simple furniture type units - Install and replace insulation - Be insurable with D.P.I.S.D. vehicle insurance (required for employment) - Be licensed in the state of Texas for CDL (commercial driver’s license) with passenger and air brake endorsement - Perform all other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Director of Maintenance and Operations **Qualifications:** - Demonstrated aptitude for successful performance of the responsibilities listed below - Completed High School, G.E.D., trade school or an apprenticeship - Prefer a minimum of 3 years work experience as a full-time carpenter - Must be competent in using all the common hand tools and machines on the craft - Must have learned the various techniques in Graphics and signage, layout and framing, finish carpentry and cabinet making from drawings with emphasis on maintenance and field repairs - Must be familiar with the use, applications and characteristics of all common woods, adhesives, fasteners, laminates, and films as they pertain to sign making - Some experience with wood painting and finishing is desirable, but not mandatory - Fingerprinting is required of all candidates per Texas Education Code - Such additional qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable **** **Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:** - **Tools/Equipment Used:** Standard equipment including but not limited to hand tools, small power tools, ladder - **Posture:** Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting - **Motion:** Frequent walking - **Lifting:** Heavy lifting and carrying (20-80 pounds) - **Environment:** Frequent prolonged and irregular hours - **Mental Demands:** Work inside and outside exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures; exposure to dust, toxic chemicals, and materials; slippery and/or uneven walking surfaces; work on ladders
