**POSITION SUMMARY** Reporting to the Manager Port Security & Operations, the Gateway Operator is responsible for the daily monitoring, reporting, coordination, and overall operation of the Prince Rupert Gateway. The Gateway Operator is primarily responsible for security, road, rail, and marine operational duties with support and guidance from the Supervisor, Port Security and other gateway operations leadership. The Gateway Operator is responsible for various administrative tasks including, but not limited to, permit approvals, declarations of security, operational reports, and management of the harbour schedule. The Gateway Operator plays a key role in emergency response, supporting effective monitoring, reporting, and coordination of response activities. **POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES** **** - Maintains awareness of all marine activity via radar, AIS, CCTV cameras and other online resources. - Ensures that procedures for transporting and storing dangerous goods and explosives within port limits are maintained and monitors compliance with such procedures. - Ensures continuous monitoring of vessel movements within the Port, including assigning berths and anchorages. - Assists in the smooth & efficient movement of all vessels calling on the Port by working closely with shipping agents, federal agencies, and local partners. - Approves all gateway operations permits, such as dangerous goods, diving, hot work, etc. - Monitors and maintains access control and security through the gateway via PRPA security systems and related hardware. - Monitors VHF traffic and works closely with Marine Communications & Traffic Services for timely response to marine-related emergencies. - Responsible for all daily reports, incident reporting and communication to gateway operations management. - Prepare and deliver a comprehensive turnover report, capturing all relevant operational details, incidents, vessel movements, equipment status, and issues requiring follow-up. - Administration of operational dashboards, tables, graphs, analytics and other reports to stakeholders and partners. - Ensures overall compliance with marine stakeholders with PRPA’s Port Information Guide. - Monitors and coordinates landside operations, including road, rail, and terminals, to ensure the safe and efficient movement of goods through the gateway. - Responsible for initiating the Incident Command System for safety, emergency, marine and security-related incidents. - Administration of Klein Port Information Management software, Avigilon Control Management (ACM) and Avigilon Control Centre (ACC) cameras and card access software. - Assists in managing Securiguard contractor personnel, day-to-day operations, cruise ship operations and extra coverage. Provides training and support when required. - Responsible for deploying PRPA operational equipment, including, but not limited to, surveillance drones and uncrewed surface vessels. - Supports marine and community events, representing PRPA as an ambassador with external stakeholders. - Performs other duties and projects as directed or assigned. **WORKING CONDITIONS** **** - Works mainly in an office environment with occasional in-field activities. Occasionally works outdoors on both marine and land-based assignments. This position may be the first responder to any safety or security incidents affecting port operations. - Regular, full-time position (averaged 40 hours per week). - Shift work rotation. One week on, one week off. Nightshift/graveyard shifts during rotation. - Standard work hours are 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM or 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
