If you are interested please contact Terry Henderson at thenderson@miamiyoder.org of by calling 719-478-2186 ext. 1353 Athletic Department The Miami-Yoder Athletic Department is committed to success in the arena, classroom, and community. The MY Athletic Department oversees 14 competitive sports programs supports every program in helping student-athletes reach their potential on and off the field. REQUIREMENTS FOR COACHING EMPLOYMENT All coaches must be either licensed teachers or registered coaches through CHSAA. All coaches are required to have a CPR, first aid and AED certification prior to the start of the season. This requirement can be met by completing the Sports Medicine Component of ASEP. (Taking this component covers the coach for the duration of his/her employment.) A coach can also meet with the building athletic trainer if available for a course in First Aid. All Coaches that are not a School District employee must complete the paperwork necessary at the central administration office so that the appropriate background checks can be completed prior to the start of practice. It is illegal (considered a felony or misdemeanor involving a child) for a coach to start coaching before this paperwork is completed. Coaches are not allowed to work with the teams until they are notified by the building athletic director that everything is completed and clear. An individual that is 18 years old or older and has graduated from high school may coach a maximum of three seasons during any one academic year. COACHING EXPECTATIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES General Expectations: A coach must recognize and be willing to accept the fact that:The coaching profession places the coach in the public eye, and, at all times, the coach will receive both unjustifiable criticism and undeserved praise. Much of the work is being done under circumstances that are likely to be of an emotional and excitable nature involving immature adults and young people. Therefore, a coach must accept such eventsWith calmness and composure, and Must continue to make decisions in clear light of common sense. In addition, the coach should always:Work to make the sport an integral part of the total educational program of the school district, Strive for consistent improvement in coaching, Be loyal to fellow coaches and superviors and supportive of the entire athletic program as long as the coach is part of the athletic unit, Insist upon and enforce all of the athletic rules of eligibility and scholarship so as to provide leadership for the developing young person, and Assist the athletes in their development of a positive attitude and self-concept about themselves, about athletics, and about life.
