Our team is committed to ensuring waste is collected, handled, and disposed of in a sustainable and efficient manner. **Job Summary:** Apex Waste Solutions is seeking a dependable and motivated **Fleet Technician Helper** to support our Fleet Maintenance team in keeping our waste collection vehicles, heavy equipment, and support vehicles operating safely and efficiently. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone looking to build a career as a diesel or heavy equipment technician. This is a **non-driving position**. The Fleet Technician Helper assists experienced technicians with preventive maintenance, repairs, shop organization, and equipment preparation while learning the skills needed to advance within the fleet maintenance department. **Key Responsibilities:** - Assist fleet technicians with preventative maintenance on refuse trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment. - Perform basic maintenance tasks including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacements, tire inspections, and fluid checks. - Wash, clean, and prepare vehicles for service and inspections. - Assist with brake, suspension, hydraulic, electrical, and engine repairs under supervision. - Operate shop equipment safely, including jacks, lifts, pressure washers, and hand and power tools. - Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment. - Stock and organize parts, tools, and maintenance supplies. - Pick up and deliver parts from local vendors as needed (company authorization required; driving is not a primary duty). - Complete work orders and maintenance documentation accurately. - Follow all OSHA, company, and environmental safety procedures. - Assist with emergency repairs as directed. - Perform other shop and maintenance duties as assigned. **Qualifications:** - High school diploma or GED preferred. - Previous mechanical experience, vocational training, or personal automotive repair experience is preferred but not required. - Basic knowledge of hand tools and mechanical systems. - Strong work ethic and willingness to learn. - Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team. - Reliable attendance and punctuality. - Ability to work in a fast-paced maintenance environment. **Physical Requirements:** - Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift up to 75 pounds with assistance. - Stand, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work in confined spaces for extended periods. - Work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. - Ability to safely use hand and power tools. - Ability to work around heavy equipment, moving vehicles, grease, oils, and shop chemicals. **Working Conditions** - Shop and outdoor work environment. - Exposure to noise, dust, diesel exhaust, grease, oils, and varying temperatures. - Use of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toe boots. - Overtime and occasional weekend work may be required based on business needs. - Full-time position, Monday through Friday. **Compensation & Benefits:** - $25.00 - $28.00 Hourly - Medical, Dental, & Vision Insurance - Matching 401k - Long Term & Short Term Disability - Life Insurance - Paid Time Off **As an EEO/Affirmative Action Employer, all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, national origin, disability, or veteran status.**
