Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential. 1. Drives and operates all pumping and/or aerial ladder firefighting apparatus to alarm scenes efficiently and safely. 2. Operates a full range of fire suppression/emergency response apparatus and equipment at the scene including regulating water pressure through hose lines of various sizes. 3. Maintains assigned apparatus/equipment/vehicle, including identifying maintenance and repairs needed, performing minor/routine maintenance and repairs, and/or requesting major repairs be performed. 4. Performs a variety of fire suppression activities at the fire scene, including deploying hose lines, operating nozzles, directing water streams, raising and climbing ladders, and utilizing a variety of hand and power equipment. 5. Operates a variety of fire suppression and/or emergency assistance equipment. 6. Participates in a variety of training activities to maintain/improve the level of fire suppression/emergency medical skills and physical conditioning. 7. Resolves routine problems encountered in performance of work assignments. 8. Performs a variety of emergency rescue activities at fire, accident, medical, or other emergency scenes. 9. Administers emergency medical care at the appropriate level. 10. Performs a variety of cleaning, maintenance, and repair tasks necessary to keep the fire station and related equipment clean, stored properly, and fully functional; answers phone and operates radio to facilitate effective and timely response to emergency calls. 11. Completes documentation accurately into Firehouse for fire and EMS calls, when serving as the ranking member on the calls. 12. Contributes effectively to the Fire Department, communicates effectively with co-workers, both within Fire as well as outside the department. Maintains satisfactory attendance to ensure duties are performed without negatively impacting co-workers or delivery of service to the public. 13. Operates office equipment, including computer; works with various software applications. 14. Maintains the confidentiality of files, records, reports as required by law, City policy, and procedures. Other Duties - Performs fire safety inspections of businesses, manufacturing/industrial facilities, schools, and other commercial/public facilities in assigned areas to identify fire hazards, potential/actual fire code violations; verifies locations of hazardous materials. - Educates community groups and City residents on fire safety and fire prevention practices and techniques; informs the same on the functions of the Joplin Fire Department. - Attends and participates effectively at departmental staff meetings. - Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of: Fire suppression principles, methods, techniques, and practices; purpose and use of various tools, equipment, and apparatus used in fire suppression, rescue, and medical assistance operations; first aid, CPR, and other basic emergency medical assistance techniques; City of Joplin policies, procedures, tactics, strategies, fire safety codes and ordinances; street names and locations in the City; effective customer service techniques.
