About the Faculty Fellow Chemistry Math role

Williston Northampton School is an independent, coeducational boarding and day school founded in 1841. Williston promotes excellence and achievement in and out of the classroom, and values individual expression as a way to create an authentic, diverse, and dynamic community. We believe responsibility begins with personal integrity, and we encourage our community to embrace diversity of thought. Williston students are empathetic and collaborative learners and are taught to live and work with purpose, passion, and integrity. In all grades, students work with committed and enthusiastic faculty to hone skills in conducting research, thinking critically, and becoming leaders. Faculty Fellowship Program Williston strongly believes in the strength of our “triple threat” model of responsibilities: faculty are teachers in the classroom, coaches on the playing fields, and dorm parents in the evening. Having teachers engaged in different aspects of the student experience cultivates a sense of connection and builds authentic relationships – peer to peer, student to teacher, and teacher to teacher. Over any given student’s time at Williston, they develop a web of relationships with supportive adults who know our kids in different contexts. Finding talented professionals actively seeking that kind of in-person, “roll-your-sleeves-up” 24/7 experience working with teenagers within a close-knit school community is challenging and highly competitive. It runs counter to recent workplace trends tied to remote- or hybrid-jobs that many new college graduates are expecting or looking for. The residential fellowship program seeks recent college graduates interested in exploring boarding school teaching for up to two years. It is our hope that those Fellows who have the capability and desire to work in this busy yet rewarding lifestyle will consider working at a boarding school - either Williston or elsewhere - as a long-term career choice. That is, the second aim of the Fellowship Program is growing the pool of qualified and experienced independent school teachers. How it Works As outlined below, the residential fellowship provides opportunities to learn about the craft of classroom teaching, coaching, and advising in the unique setting of a global learning community. Fellows will be able to explore a potential career in education and will learn about all aspects of boarding school life from a friendly and knowledgeable community of seasoned faculty, deans, and mentors. While the program may evolve over time, Faculty Fellows in the 2026-27 academic year cohort should expect: Williston fellowships will be awarded on a two-year basis, with a starting salary of approximately forty-one thousand dollars, with room and board provided by the school. Health and retirement benefits are included and are the same as those for full-time faculty appointments. Fellows must be willing to live in a shared house on campus, with a private bedroom and a shared kitchen, living room, and other common spaces. Depending on housing availability and school need, fellows may live in separate apartments. Fellows should expect to teach three sections of classes during the year, participate in two seasons of Afternoon Program activity (e.g. athletics, arts, robotics), supervise one night of dormitory duty each week, and serve six weekends during the year on a weekend duty team with faculty colleagues. Each fellow will work with a team of faculty mentors responsible for a systematic program of support and professional development in teaching and working with students across the range of boarding school interactions. This includes, but is not limited to classroom observations, 1-on-1 meetings, and monthly evening meetings. While the primary focus will be learning about teaching, coaching, and student life, fellows may be exposed to other aspects of independent schools such as admissions, communications, and advancement. Candidates must be able to successfully complete the state-m…
