The Fabrication Finishing Technician is responsible for preparing fabricated sheet metal components for final delivery by removing burrs, blending welds, improving cosmetic appearance, and preparing parts for painting, assembly, or shipment. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that all products meet Edgewater Automation's quality standards and customer expectations for appearance, workmanship, and accuracy. A successful Fabrication Finishing Technician consistently produces clean, accurate, customer-ready parts, demonstrates pride in workmanship, works safely, and contributes to the efficient flow of production through the fabrication department. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Deburr, grind, sand, polish, and finish fabricated metal components to customer specifications. Remove sharp edges, weld spatter, slag, and other imperfections from laser-cut, formed, machined, and welded parts. Blend welds and surfaces to achieve required cosmetic finishes. Prepare components for powder coating, painting, plating, anodizing, or customer shipment. Install hardware, rivets, inserts, and other assembly components as required. Read and interpret manufacturing work orders, engineering drawings, and production documentation. Inspect completed parts to verify dimensional accuracy, cosmetic appearance, and overall workmanship. Identify quality concerns and communicate issues to supervisors or upstream manufacturing departments. Safely operate finishing equipment including pedestal grinders, belt sanders, orbital sanders, die grinders, abrasive wheels, and other hand and power tools. Perform routine maintenance and replacement of abrasives and other tooling as required. Maintain organized work areas Safely move materials and completed parts throughout the manufacturing facility. Assist other fabrication and manufacturing departments as production demands require. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, delivery, and efficiency. Follow all company safety policies and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE). Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent. Mechanical aptitude and experience using hand and power tools. Ability to read tape measures and perform basic measurements. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Reliable attendance and punctuality. Preferred Previous experience in sheet metal fabrication, machining, welding, or manufacturing. Ability to read engineering drawings and blueprints. Experience using measuring instruments such as calipers and gauges. Forklift and/or overhead crane experience. Experience preparing parts for painting or powder coating. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong mechanical aptitude. Excellent attention to detail. Ability to recognize cosmetic and workmanship defects. Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced production environment. Good communication and teamwork skills. Commitment to workplace safety and continuous improvement. Physical Requirements Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday. Frequently lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Perform repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements. Bend, kneel, reach, push, and pull throughout the shift. Safely operate hand-held power tools and production equipment. Use appropriate PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and protective footwear. Supervisory Responsibility This position has no direct report supervisory responsibility. Work Environment This position is performed in a manufacturing environment where employees are regularly exposed to machinery, moving equipment, metal dust, noise, vibration, and varying temperatures.
