Equipment Operator

**Job Summary** **:** Operates small sized equipment including pick-up trucks, hay blower, hydro seeder, mowing machines (riding and push mowers) and/or scooter trucks, and performs manual labor in the mainte­nance and/or repair of County property and facilities. **Essential Functions and Responsibilities**: (All incumbents may not perform all duties.) - Operates pick-up truck for the collection of litter inside the Landfill, on county ROW, and at compactor sites. - Operates mowing machines (including riding and push mowers to cut grass), cuts down dead trees, clears storm drains, and collects litter/ trash. - Performs basic maintenance on pick-up trucks and mowers including washing, changing oil, greasing, checking fluids, sharpening blades and changing flat tires. - Performs unskilled or semi-skilled labor such as loading tires collected at the Landfill, municipal details which include collecting trash, helping with erosion control methods and/or trimming trees, shrubs and cutting right-of-way. - Regular and predictable attendance is required. - Performs other related duties as assigned. **Materials and Equipment Used** - Chain Saws / Pole Saws - Pick-up Trucks - Hydro-Seeder - Hay Blower - Rakes/Shovels - Mowing Machines - Post Digger - Weed Eater **Minimum Qualifications Required:** **Education and Experience:** - High School Diploma or GED - Ability to read and write. - One year Laborer experience required. - Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the minimum level of qualifications, stated above. **Licenses and Certifications:** - Class C Driver’s license and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR). - Due to the safety-sensitive nature of this position, incumbents will be subject to random drug testing. **Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:** - Knowledge of geography of the County including major roads and landmarks. - Knowledge of basic preventive maintenance procedures. - Knowledge of traffic rules and regulations - Skill in operating various types of small to medium equipment, such as scooter trucks, mowing machines, and hand and power tools. - Ability to take and follow directions from supervisor. - Ability to perform strenuous and routine work. **ADA MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:** **Physical Ability:** Essential functions of this position continuously require the ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) and move oneself by walking. Incumbents constantly handle stress and emotion; concentrate on tasks; remember names and other details; concentrate on tasks; examine and observe details; make decisions, adjust to change. Additionally; essential functions require the continuous ability to be on call; direct others; meet deadlines; operate equipment; and stay organized. Essential functions of this position frequently require the ability to bend body downward and forward by bending spine and legs, twisting at the waist, hips or knees; ascend and descend ladders, stairs, and ramps; maintain body equilibrium to prevent failing when walking, standing, or navigating narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces; repetitively use hands/arms/legs; and grasp items such as tools, levers, or equipment. Incumbents frequently must be able to think analytically and use effective written communication. Additionally, essential functions require frequent attendance at work related meetings or trainings and maintenance of stamina during the work day. Essential functions of this position occasionally require the ability to move oneself by crawling on hands and knees; position oneself by crouching or kneeling; reach overhead; push or pull items; move/transport items weighing up to 25lbs.
