English Language Arts (ELA) Supervisor JobID: 878 Position Type: Curriculum/Supervisor of Instruction Date Posted: 6/17/2026 Location: District Date Available: 09/01/2026 Additional Information: Show/Hide English Language Arts (ELA) Supervisor REPORTS TO: Director of Curriculum and High School / Middle School Principal NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB: The English Language Arts Supervisor will provide leadership for the assigned content area(s), consistent with the educational goals and objectives of the district, to carry out planning and development for curriculum, instruction, assessment, program supervision, and the evaluation of instructional staff. The Supervisor will provide oversight for developmentally appropriate programs in the assigned subject area(s) and promote personal growth in teaching environments. Responsible for establishing effective relationships with students, parents/guardians, staff, and community members to enhance learning opportunities. QUALIFICATIONS: The English Language Arts Supervisor shall: 1. Have a master's degree from an accredited college or university. 2. Hold a New Jersey Certificate of Eligibility or standard administrative certificate as a Principal or Supervisor. 3. Have multi-year, successful continuous experience in teaching English Language Arts. 4. Have the ability to clearly and productively discuss the improvement of the quality of instruction of the department. 5. Hold an Instructional Certification issued by the NJDOE with an English Language Arts K-12 endorsement. 6. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of curriculum development and program evaluation; child growth and development; effective, innovative, and research-based instructional strategies; classroom management; learning assessment and diagnosis; and evidence-based research related to learning. 7. Have experience in staff development and curriculum development review. 8. Demonstrate such alternatives or additional qualifications as the Board may find appropriate, acceptable, and in compliance with New Jersey Law. JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The English Language Arts Supervisor shall: 1. Assist the principal and Curriculum Office in duties related to instruction, supervision, evaluation, and the overall administration of the school. 2. Be required to teach two periods of student instruction per day. 3. Supervise, support, and evaluate school personnel. 4. Oversee the ELA curriculum and academic programs. 5. Work closely with teachers to ensure that students are achieving educational targets. 6. Develop and implement strategies to ensure a safe learning environment. 7. Conduct meetings as necessary for the proper functioning of the school. 8. Provide effective advice and support to staff relating to classroom management and discipline. 9. Teach demonstration lessons in classrooms and serve as a peer coach and support for staff in reciprocal relationships. 10. Assist the Curriculum Office and principal with the selection and requisition of supplies, textbooks, instructional resources and services, and equipment and conduct inventories, maintain records, and review receipts and purchase orders for such material. 11. Conduct observations and evaluations of teaching staff members, prepare written comments, and offer constructive suggestions for improvement when appropriate. 12. Assist in the supervision of all teachers and paraprofessionals, maintaining clear expectations for roles, responsibilities, and performance to ensure that all job responsibilities are met and exceeded. 13. Maintain visibility with students, staff, parents, and the community, attending school and community functions regularly to demonstrate a genuine interest in the students and staff. 14. Maintain positive, cooperative, and mutually supportive relationships with the central administration, parents, and representatives of resource agencies within the community. 15.
