The [Department of Environmental Services (DES)](https://www.arlingtonva.us/Government/Departments/DES), is seeking an **Engineering Support Associate** to become part of a team, performing multi-skilled engineering support work for the Water/Sewer/Streets Bureau. The work includes entry to advanced level technical engineering support of Arlington County's Water, Sanitary Sewer, Storm Sewer and Street infrastructure. ### Responsibilities Specific duties include: - Reviewing, investigating, and responding to citizen generated maintenance requests using the QAlert system; - Providing customer service by researching and resolving citizen issues, working with technical staff and contractors, business owners and property owners during investigations to understand, address, and follow-up on concerns; - Creating and assigning requests/tasks to Trades Manager Leaders using the County’s asset management system (Cartegraph); - Providing support for emergency operations such as supporting and/or performing snow removal; - Managing small construction repair programs and projects such as driveway apron replacement, guardrail, fence, tree removal, and handrail in the County Right of Way (ROW); - Locating, researching, and interpreting records, easements, deeds, and drawings to assist engineers and construction crews with maintenance work; - Responding to FOIA requests for utility records, plans, and drawings; and - Performing other work-related duties as assigned. ### Qualifications **Minimum Requirements:** This position may be filled at the ESA I, II, or III level. **Education and experience:** Graduation from high school, vocational school, a GED certificate or the equivalent; and some experience in one or more of the following areas: - Engineering support; - Construction management; - Laboratory experience conducting tests; - Customer service in a trades environment; and/or Automated records management. **Substitution:** Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related field may substitute for up to one year of experience. **Desirable:** Preference may be given to candidates with a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) A or B, and experience in one or more of the following: - Preparing, updating, and/or locating records, drawings, and plats; - Mapping and performing spatial analyses with ArcGIS Pro; - Working with an automated work order management system (Cartegraph) and/or utility billing software (Cayenta); - Reading engineering plans, schematics, maps, and drawings showing water and/or sewer systems; - Drafting with AutoCAD; and/or - Working with citizens to resolve public works requests. **Special Requirements:** **Cover Letter:** Please attach a cover letter or alternatively, use the space provided in the supplemental question section to describe your experience in the following area(s): - Engineering support; - Construction Management; - Laboratory experience conducting tests; - Customer service/administrative support in a trades environment; and/or - Automated/Utility records management. **Driver's License:** The applicant must possess a valid driver's license and authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide a copy of the official driving record.
